My uncle wants me to help him install a brake controller on his 96 ram 1500. It has the factory installed tow package including the camper plug, but I can not find a plug under his dash to just plug in his brake controller.

I understand how to wire it all in except for the blue wire that needs to hook to the camper plug. Do I have to run 1 wire(blue) back to the trailer plug that is factory installed or is there somewhere else to hook this wire? If not should I just splice into the blue wire that's already hooked up to the factory plug at the plug? The factory plug looks like it's just plugged into the wiring harness under his bumper, should I just splice into it there????

Hope this makes sense...

There should be a 4 pin connector up under the dash around the steering column area on the 96 Ram. It could also be tucked up around the fuse block. This is ONLY if it has the factory installed 7 pin connector. If the connector is after market or, it is a 4 pin, then there will be no connector under the dash.
Pull the knee bolster off (5 screws)for better access.

It will be well hidden. I think the plug is sky blue.

It does have the MOPAR Factory 7pin plug installed, so maybe the connector is under the dash somewhere. I will take the kneed bolster off so I can see in there better. Thanks!

I have a 96 Ram with the towing package (bought it new). It had the 7 pin plug in the back, but no connector at the dash, just a bundle of wires. Had to splice my own connections and tap into the brake switch circuit. Perhaps not all are the same.
