As you are leaving Ft. Bragg and heading North, the Westport RV park is on the left adjacent to the beach. Several sites with all of the hookups. There is another one on the cliffs a few more miles North.
We ran into some abalone divers in Westport and they told me that the limit for them is 3/day with a 24 seasonal limit...not quite what it used to be when I was diving for the same thing.

I have lived in this area for 30 years, and drive these roads every day, and a lot of the locals wont take Hwy 20 as it has to much traffic and accidents, and prefer 128 west to Hwy 1 then north.
The RV Park just north of West port just underwent a complete remodel, and unless you have stayed there with in the last 5 years, you haven't Seen it.
And unless Fish and Game can get a Handel on the Abalone poacher's that sell them in the China Town section of San Francisco, they will close the season on them for a few years. I have seen F&G set up road blocks several times, and stop everyone on Hwy 128, 20 & 1 and have caught people with over 100 abalone in there vehicle.
The OP must have crossed Hwy 20 during the big wind storm, our power was out for 3 days. Thanks for the generator.
There are thousand's of RVs, big and small that come through this part of the coast all the time, as well as 18 wheel big trucks, and its not a problem for most. But if your looking for freeways look some where else.

It's been at least 30 years since I've had abalone. The last time I had it was at the Hungry Hunter in Lafayette, CA. There is nothing like abalone, but the price and lack of supply put it out of reach for me. Sniff, sniff.

Last week when I came home there were two live Abalone in a box sitting at my front door. I know so many people I dont even have to go get them any more, I leave that to the young kids, under 40. And living hear, we have our own secret, and private places to get them. But anybody willing to get wet can get a limit (2 per day)

wow! i'd love to come home and find a couple abalone on my front porch!! my DH (graduated from fortuna) and his high school buddy (rio del) used to dive at certain beaches, but it became more and more difficult and they were diving deeper and deeper to find (legal) sized ones. it's a shame the poaches have eroded it so badly--DH thought it might be the sea otters. yes, nothing like fresh abalone!

We have no complaint with a few sea otters, but car trunks full are ending up being sold to restaurants in China and Japan Town, in San Francisco. Japan has cleaned them out there years ago. And now its big money over hear.
With a limit of 2 per day, one vehicle was stopped with over 75 in it.

I have had many a night driving in those conditions along the Oregon coast. I agree it is very scary and and I always end by saying I need fog/driving lights and some rain-x. Of course, I never get "around" to it and end up doing it again.

I had a conversion van that came with fog lights, boy are they a life saver in bad conditions, fog, rain, or just a dark road,or snow at night. Once you have them it's hard not to have a vehicle without them.

I keep saying I'm going to put them on the MH too, but like you I never get around to it either.

Got an appointment for service this week, thanks to this thread it reminded me that I WILL have them installed this week for my trip to California and on to Oregon.

I had a set of Driving lights on my 4X4 pick up truck / camper, the type you are supposed to keep covered up when on the highway (to bright) but on several occasions when traveling at night I use them.
I had a relay on the regular high beams, so they would only work when there switch was on and the head lights were on high.
But they spoil you, after a few miles you get use to the long range bright white light, then when you have to turn them off, or dim your headlights, it gets so dark its almost like every thing went out.
But I sure miss them, and have considered installing a set on the MH, but dont drive it at night all that much. But may still do it.

Rockhillmanor, Ill wave when you come past, have a good trip.
Mike.
