Does anyone stay at KOA? I just had to cancel a reservation and had to pay a $10.00 cancellation fee. I won't ever make a reservation with KOA again unless I have no choice.

Next time make sure they fax you a copy.

KOA Systemwide Cancellation Policy
Effective January 6, 2004

Reservation Guarantee Deposit
A credit card deposit equal to the registration charges for your first night will be required to guarantee a reservation. The deposit will be charged at the time of reservation.

Cancellation Requirements for Deposit Refund
If you are unable to honor your reservation, you must call and cancel prior to these deposit refund cancellation deadlines:

RV/Tent: 48 Hours - To cancel your RV/tent reservation, notify KOA by 4 p.m. two days prior to your scheduled arrival.

Kabin: 7 Days - To cancel your Kabin reservation, notify KOA one week prior to your scheduled arrival date.

Reservations made after deadlines will require a non-refundable deposit.

Cancellation Charges
A $10 cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations made prior to deadline. Cancellations after deadline will result in forfeiture of deposit.

Holiday weekends, special events that require a minimum two night stay or more and KOA Kottage and Lodge reservations excluded.

As of January 6, 2004, the above text will be part of the reservation page the camper will see when making a reservation through KOA.com.

Most if not all campgrounds have cancellation policies that are noted on their respective websites. IF not sure, ask them. Make sure u read everything BEFORE making any type of reservation regardless of campground, hotel or car rental.

Ditto. We just had to cancel our summer vacation due to unforeseen circumstances. Had reservations at 4 separate NP campgrounds and each one had a $10 cancellation fee. Cost us 40 bucks but at least we didn't have to pay a one (or two) night stay at each place.

MO State Parks assess a late fee as well. We've had to cancel many times but that's a small price to pay in exchange for the peace of mind knowing we can pull into the CG late at night and have our spot waiting for us.

Keeps everyone honest. Some RV'ers will shotgun the reservation system to get all the good sites then cancel what they do not want at the last minute. Keeps sites open for the rest of us.

We just paid a $10 fee for a place we cancelled FOUR MONTHS in advance so 48 hours is not bad at all.

Canccellation fees are a standard throughout the Camp Ground industry. The terms are different in many cases so the buyer has to be aware of each policy and if you are not comfortable with the policy, don't make the reservation. Could you imagine what the reservation system would be like if there were no cancellation fees/policy? We would NEVER be able to get spot ANYWHERE. People would be making reservations at ten parks and then just showing up at one and leaving the other 9 go without even bothering to call/cancel. A resonable cancellation fee is indeed needed to stop this practice in my opinion.

I know a lot of people harp about paying cancellation fees, but campground operators need to pay someone to take and cancel reservations. These cancellation fees help offset the cost of doing business.

I have been to cg's that did not have this policy (but now do) and on any weekend that rain was in the forecast they would be half empty, even though 2 weeks earlier they had no spots open. I have no problem with a cancellation fee. I do have issue with charging for an entire night . But I am also courteous enough to call a CG even if we are running later than our anticipated arrival time.

I'd say $10 is a cheap cancellation fee. A lot of places make you forfeit the cost of the first nights stay.
