DW and I will be leaving Saturday (assuming she is out of hospital by then) for a week in Branson, MO staying at Coopers Creek CG. We will drop down to Albuquerque on 550 and take I-40 East. Where I get confused at, is from OKC to Branson. Most route makers I have tried run me over the toll roads from OKC to Tulsa to Springfield,MO and then South to Branson. Is it that much quicker than taking I-40 on east of OKC then turning North on State roads?

Although I hate to pay those tolls, I would not hesitate to do that rather than drive North from I-40 on 65 again. I found that road to be a real twisting, turning, stop light, cross traffic problem.

I would also take the turnpike. I40 east of OKC is the roughest road I have ever been on.

if time is no concern you could take route 66 from okla city to vinita then hop on turnpike there on into missouri or hit 60 in vinita on east into missouri. Seneca area was hit with tornado recently but roads should be open

I would definately take the Turnpike out of OKC to Tulsa. If you go I-40 East out of OKC to avoid tolls you will have to go through Fort Smith and up to Fayetteville, AR. I believe that the tolls will run you about $12.00 with the most expensive being I-44 from Tulsa to the Missouri state line.

I would take the Kilpatrick Turnpike around OKC, it was $2, and worth $5.
When you approach Springfield MO, look for the sign indicating the James River Freeway, it will be while you are still in a rural area about 8 miles out. It is a much better route around Springfield to hiway 65.

Thanks SWMO. Trip routing through mapquest shows taking the James River Freeway, but definitely will keep the Kilpatrick Turnpike at the forefront. We have been living in the boonies for too long, and I am never happy being routed through a city, so this is a great piece of advice.
