Being honest, I am not looking for the "cadillac" of tow bars. I will be towing a little Ranger or S10 Pick Up behind my Dually with a truck camper. What do you folks recommend.

Thanks

There are basically two types of towbars - one that stays with the towed vehicle or one that stays with the towing vehicle. Either Roadmaster or Blue Ox will have one that is suitable for your rig.

Prices vary considerably with a cheap drawbar type being in the $300 and the super duper lightweight models in the $700 range.

I use a Demco Excali-bar from PPL Motorhomes to pull my Explorer. They are regularly $670 and on sale for $459. They change their sales every Friday at 5:00 pm so if you want it don't wait too long. I also went with the Demco baseplate because I preferred it's installation over other base plates.

get one that stays on the rear of the motorhome and has levers to release it, not slip rings. I use an Aventa II myself.

Alternatively, if you aren't in a hurry do what I did. Find a couple different models you'd be happy with and keep an eye on eBay. We got a great towbar at half price. It is used but in great shape and works very well.

Harbor freight has a very nice 5000 lb. capacity A-frame towbar for about $50, depending on what the current sale price is. It works.
Reese and Valley both make adjustable A-frame towbars that run around $145. They work good, too. I have been using one for several years.
Or, you can get fancy and spend $600 to $1000.
Your choice.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations:
I am not looking to spend $600 - 700. Again my application is flat tow a small Ranger PU behind my Dually with my TC. My TC is a modest Northstar 850SC Pop up. Not loading up a 35,000 lb rig to stop. Man I read some of the reviews and this stuff can get very very expensive, complicated and quite honestly unnecessary. But then again I guess if you have a 40ft Deal and are towing a full size car across the US then I suspect the requirement exists.

From the original post I don't think he wants to step over the tow bar every time he gets into his truck camper. So whatever he gets will need to come off the tow rig if I am reading this correctly.

I opted for the lower end of the price range and did all the install myself. There just happens to be a nice wide storage area in the front bin of our MH that will accommodate the tow bar and a poor boy trailer, all the stuff that goes along with it and other things without any problem.

Dont forget.. What ever tow bar you purchase, you will need a baseplate to mount on the Ranger...

Just my $.02 worth...

I use Blue Ox Components. Completely satisfied with the performance...

Good Luck...
