It depends on what you want to do. Since you specifically say Pigeon Forge, I'm assuming that you want to do all the activities along the strip? The games, the horror houses, the Ripleys, etc. Traffic can be a nightmare driving with an RV. We spent 90 minutes going 4 miles while a car show was in town. You can google for the town's events. If an event is in town, plan on arriving & leaving first thing in the morning to avoid the monster traffic jam.

If you want to do the Smokey Mountain National Park with hiking and black bears, take the by-pass route and head straight for Elkmont Campground. The black bears are just a few miles away. In the morning and evening take a short drive looking for the bears from your car. Try just below Laurel Falls in the gullies around Maloney Point. 50% of the time we saw them right from our car.

Here's a photo of us in Elkmont. For all the stuff we did & more photos and even a BEAR video, you are more than welcome to look at our adventure archives. We were in the Smokies 4/19/08-4/26/08.

And don't forget about Sheffield Gold Mine on the other side of the mountain.

Personally we prefer Clabough's, especially the sites in the backside of the park. It has a more rustic feel than most of the other parks. The trolley stops right in the campground and there's a well stocked store/gas station located out front.

We've stayed at River Plantation several times and really like it. There are a lot of really good CG's in Pigeon Forge. A shorter list may be to ask "which CG's to avoid".

OK, I'll bite, which ones should be avoided?

Looks like I will be there this summer with a group at Twin Mountain Resort. What am I in for: good or bad?

Another vote for River Plantation. We have stayed there several times and like it better than the others. We are going to stay there this Memorial day weekend for 4 days. I have some photos of the CG in my Camping Photos link

Thank You for all the reply's. Have stayed in Cherokee long time ago before the casino overtook everthing else in town. Not crazy about the busyness of Gatlinburg. The Cg's on 321 begore gatlinburg look interesting. The other Family that we go Camping with finally called back and said they would like to go to Stone Mtn GA. Wife liked the idea also. Thank You again for the replys. Hopefully we can go to the Mountains in Oct.
