We have so enjoyed our 08 View, purchased in Nov,07. The Grand Canyon, Zion, Death Valley, Anza Borego etc. etc. The H floorplan rocks and until now the Sprinter 3500 diesel,3L has been great.16mpg,tip shift downshift works great and keeps brakes cool, wonderfull. BUT...
We are currently stuck in San Jose because a computer part($1,500) failed. We had virtually no acceleration, and I assumed it was a leak in the turbo system. (which is common and apparently an after-market part of stainless steel is available. It increases noise though.) Dodge says it will take 2-3 days to fix.
At 7,980mi odometer reading, I am one PISSED OFF M.F.!!!
Is this common?
How many $1,500 modules will I have to pay for after warranty?
Anyone have experience/knowledge of this?

I had a very similar problem with our Dodge dually 1 ton truck that I bought in December. An electronic module went out and I couldn't put it in drive. Thankfully it was under warranty but found that this is a problem. Seems the more high tech we get, the worse things break. Sorry for your problems and I hope you have a warranty that will cover it.

Thanks ladymc53, Yes, we are under warranty, now... I agree about the failure rate of complicated technology. My work truck of 25 years is a 68 chevy C10 pick-up. Emminently re-buildable and understandable by ME. (the $45K sprinter 3500 w/ boxes and rack almost seduced me)

You think that's bad....

My son is a third year apprentice mechanic at the local BMW dealer. He had to try and find a fault in a new 7 series and he says there are 70 some computer modules in it. A separate module for every function. I have to agree that I like simple versus complex, maybe that's why my MH is almost 25 years old....

Never know with computer modules, I had one fail in a brand new Ranger within the first year but it has been fine since then, never know with electronics.

Something like this can happen with any modern chassis. We depend on computers - we're dead in the water when they fail.

08, I may be wrong, but I think the turbo pipe/resonator leak and aftermarket replacement part is unique to the older I-5 Sprinter. I'm pretty sure it's a different part on the V-6, and presumably redesigned to avoid the problem.

That said, you may want to join the Yahoo! Sprinter owners' group to get some insight on your question. Also, there are numerous Sprinter owners on the Class B forum here, tho' of course they have the full-bodied van, usually the 2500, and mostly the I-5.

First, sorry you had a break down. That is never fun.

Do not worry about the old turbo resonator issues. That is unique to the old I-5 diesel. Otherwise, chances are you won't have similar issues as you move along. One thing about these MB diesels is that they are fairly sophisticated and have a lot of electronic sensors and controls. These things do seem to suffer some infant mortality (depending on the unit) until well into the double-digit mileage numbers. Remember, there are Sprinters running around the globe with well over a million miles on them. Dodge/MB will get it taken care of an you'll be on your way.

Good luck!

Several RVnet members have said the same thing in various threads lately. I finally signed up today - I even ordered a couple of "Skinnie Winnies" decals for "Slick".

I didn't see anything offensive there. It is pretty annoying when a brand new toy stops working . . . especially an expensive toy. I saw someone else just posted that they haven't been able to use their brand new '08 at all due to engine trouble. That really stinks. Not sure what the Germans are up to as far as quality here . . . I hope they get these problems figured out.
