we're taking an extra family (5 people) with us on vacation this year, and im concerned that with the added heat load that the single A/C in my raptor wont be enough to keep up. i plan to install the additional A/C over the master bedroom and im curious what brands/BTU units others have added. im currently looking at a 13,500 coleman mach 3 but havent committed.
thanks for the feedback,
I'm in a similar position, staying in New Orleans, LA 'till at least the middle of July. I've been looking at the Coleman Mach 3 and the "power-saving" model that uses less amps but costs more money. My hope is that the "P.S." model would have a rotary compressor and would be quieter in use (fan noise would be the same, but hoping for less vibration). I thought the heat strip would be worth it for the small cost to be able to use it when "hooked-up"
I talked to a local dealer, and he said the Carrier model is preferred by folks with boats/ships, due to it's higher resistance to corrosion (salt water and high humidity), and is worth the higher cost to them.
Visually, I believe existing unit is a Coleman 13.5, so if you put another one on the front of the roof it would not look out of place.
I'm also looking at the Coleman 13.5 Mach III+. I can get it from RV Parts Outlet in Oregon for $465. The inside portion with the heat strip is $112 more, and shipping is $109. Puts it at about $180 less than Camping World (since they'd charge sales tax).
I will probably install it myself, but I just have to figure out how to get it onto the roof. I keep trying to use the Force but it hasn't worked so far.
