What constitutes a big rig? Length/Size? I see there's allot of talk about big rig access.

I've never seen a definition, but would say anything over 30' could be called a big rig. Many older cgs were made for rigs under 30'. My rig (in sig below) is definitely considered a big rig by every cg.

Mostly the definition applies to two lane roads when you pull out to pass one. When you get half way around it and another car is coming and you find yourself thinking, "This is a BIG rig," then you'll know.

I think the term first appeared when MH mfgs started making the 40 footers.

I guess the real question would be what do CGs consider a big rig since that's where it really matters. This is our first motor home and I was trying to figure out where it falls in the order of things with regards to campgrounds. It's a Jayco Seneca 36fs, 36ft 7"s long. Being that it's a "super" C....it's kind of a strange category I guess.

Depends on the tow vehicle, if it's a pull behind you may be talking about. If you have a mini truck, then any rig would be a big rig regarding that setup. I've got a crew cab truck and a 33' 5er but the way I pull it sometimes, I would consider it a big rig... like this.

I always thought it was at about 40'. Isn't that what the "Big Rig" RV Park directory is aimed at?
