I'm getting ready to change my personal website to a new host. Doesn't have to be real fancy but I'd prefer it if it supported Front Page 2003 extensions and has scripts for counters and guestbooks. Looking for decent low cost alternatives. Specifically, does anyone have any experience with HostMonster or WebHostingPad?

I've been with this company for years and have no complaints whatsoever.

FrontPage extensions are slowly becoming sort of harder to come by, especially among low-cost plans. I think that GoDaddy may have them with their entry-level plans, though you'd need to check. My other hosting company, MyHosting, does not offer the extensions with basic plans any more.

Eventually, though, you should probably consider biting the bullet and leaving FrontPage, which really did have a number of quirky things to it (and the main reason why FrontPage extensions were necessary). Yes, there will be a learning curve. Expression Web, Microsoft's "replacement" for FrontPage, is a decent product, but it does require quite a lot of learning for folks who used FrontPage and who want software for everyday purposes. DreamWeaver is another good product, but, again, it's not just FrontPage-made-by-somebody-else.

Hi Fizz,

Did you pay a one-time fee and now you've been using it for how many years? Sounds like a real deal... why do anything different?

Do they park a bunch of ads on your web pages?

Though they probably are not the cheapest I've been with Ipower.com for several years now and been very pleased with them. Runs about $100/year for my plan; domain and email, and you can use FP too.

No adds no nagging. Once you set up your domain name nobody knows its connected to anything else i.e. www.yourname.com NOT www.yahoo.yourname.com

Ah, actually there's quite a lot of publically available info about every domain out there, including yours (dustydragon.com). I won't post your info here (I don't make a habit of that kind of thing), but it is easily accessible to anybody who has an internet connection.
