Do you...

Tow in "D" or "4"?

Use tow/haul switch?

What gas milage do you get?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a Nissan, but with my Dodge, the owner's manual answered similar questions. You should refer to your owner's manual for answers from the people who engineered and built your truck.

We tow with a 2007 Titan SE Crew cab towing a Flagstaff 829BHSS TT, tow in 4th or shift down in the mountains, using tow mode and don't use cruise... all per the manual. I'll have to check the gas mileage sometime, but it would be like any other gas-engine 1/2 ton. Hope this helps...

I have a 04 Titan, 4X4, off road etc. I tow a 28ft. Wildcat weighing about 7400 lbs. I always tow in tow mode, 4th gear, no cruise unless on a flat road and have a tail wind. I get an ave. of 9 mpg. The most critical factor regarding mileage is which way the wind is blowing and how strong.

Haven't been towing long, but we tow a Keystone Hideout 23RKS with a 2005 Titan SE Crew 4x2 without the big tow package. We tow just below the max for the non-big tow package limits. Tow in 4th, Tow mode ON, no cruise (cruise will eat your fuel up if you are on anything other than dead flat road), probably 3rd or 2nd hitting the big hills (tell you for sure in September when we go to the Smokies). On flat land and a calm day, we got just over 9MPG. I anticipate that in the hills we will be looking at closer to 7.

We plan to get a autogauge tranny temp gauge just to keep an eye on things - all Titans regardless of package come with a tranny cooler. If you have the Big Tow package, you just get to see the gauge. We are adding back the K N filter that has been stashed in the garage because it was a PIA, but now seems like a pretty good idea. Also plan to upgrade to some decent shocks.

For a 1/2 ton, the Titan is one heck of a truck.

FYI - have you read about the possible 3/4 ton Titan in the works for 2010? Would not share parts with the Ram like the prospective 1/2 tons set to release (if Nissan decides the Titan is viable at all for 2010) it would be all Nissan all the way. Sweet.

Hope that helps.

Melissa

I tow in 4th, 5th is an overdrive and constantly changes gears.

I usually hit the tow button.

On the flats I use cruise control but kick it off when I get in the higher ground.

I get about 10 mpg, my Jayfeather doesn't present as a large frontal area as other TT

anyone tow with a Nissan Titan? Yes. 2006 Titan SE, 4X4, factory tow package. Engine runs 2000 - 2100 average RPM, up to maybe 2800 RPM on a few hills, and tranny temp remains in normal range, as when not towing. These numbers are from trips Chicago to Detroit and Chicago to Fargo. No mountains.

Do you...

Tow in "D" or "4"? Tow in 4

Use tow/haul switch? Yes

Use cruise control? Sometimes on the flats (gives my foot a rest)

What gas milage do you get? Varies 9 - 13 depending on wind and slope. Average probably 10 - 11.

The manual does have the statement "Do not tow in overdrive".

I have inadvertently towed with overdrive on and tow mode not selected. I knew exactly what was up when I noticed tranny temp going above normal. Put the truck in 4th gear, set tow mode, and drop in tranny temp was almost immediate.

2005 Crew Cab Off Road 4x4. We tow a x-210 Funfinder.

Usually we tow in 4th but often engage the overdrive on the flats. We don't use the cruise control while towing. Usually we don't use the tow haul unless the terrain indicates we'd benefit from the different shift points (the X-210 is a light trailer). We typically get 11-12 mpg but this can decrease quite a bit, again based on terrain since we have some real steep routes around here.
