Bar Harbor was about a 30 minute drive from Middle River.
Try Morris Meadows, Its only abot 45-50 minutes. Jump on The beltway, take 83 north. Its a very easy drive. Best thing is, Its very kid friendly. After your first time there, you will be back

Anything east of the Susquehanna river is going to be a pain traffic wise. the're going to start redecking the rt. 40 bridge soon.
FYI Someone mentioned Buttonwood beach CG. First off it's way too far from the middle river by road and second it's a 99 year lease permanent camper type place. I just drove through there last week and I didn't see any transient sites.
