I'm looking for input from folks who have first hand experience using the Yamaha 2400is to power their RV with a 13,500 BTU roof AC. I have a 2008 Dometic unit, and I am looking at generators since we mostly dry camp and we will be using the AC pretty often this summer(FWIW, we are not in a high elevation).
I'd prefer to steer clear of the Honda and Yamaha 3000's because of weight and the fact I'd be moving it mostly by myself, and I'd also prefer to steer clear of the 2 Honda 2000's because of the extra $1000 in cost and like most people finances are tight.
I keep hearing these Yamaha 2400's were designed to run the 13,500 units, but I want to make an informed decision. I even found this guys web page where he tests the unit with amp readings. http://2manytoyz.com/yamaha2400.html
Any input from folks who have actually used these for the purposes I am describing would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Yamaha Se2400 generator, and have used it to power my 13,500 btu AC unit without any problems. I bought a 50 amp to 120 vac adaptor and plugged it into the generator. No problems, AC unit ran and cycled normally with the thermostat. I had only a few 12v lights on in the 5th wheel, and the refrigerator was on gas. Like I said, no problems.

I have a Honda 2000 but a co-worker has the Yamaha 2400 and it runs his 13.5 BTU ac no problem; it's actually a bit quieter than my Honda (in my opinion).

I also have a Yamaha 2400iS. It runs my 2008 Ragen toyhauler's Dometic 13.5 A/C unit easily. The microwave or a blow dryer spools the gen up much for than the A/C does.
So far I've run the A/C extensively in Dumont Dunes and in the mountains up to 5,000 feet elevation.
I'm guessing your 2008 and my 2008 are the same model of Dometic 13,500. Maybe not. However, did you have any problems restarting after turning it off? Were you able to run other things with no problems (lights, stereo, converter, water pump)? Thanks.
I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on the 2400. Makes no sense to me to spend the extra $700 on the Honda or Yamaha 3000 (not to mention the extra 80+ pounds) if this will handle all of our needs. No dealers around me to try it out though so I guess I'd be taking a bit of a leap of faith. Decisions would be easier if $$ was not an issue.
