I-5 through Oregon and No.Cal is a very tough drive with all the truck traffic. I avoid it in those areas at all costs, even if it adds time and distance to my route. I do not think I would classify I-5 as interesting, especially when you get into the heat of the Sac and San Joaquin Valleys. The parts through Oregon and NoCal are relatively scenic, just the semis that make it very tough.
Ditto. I use that route when I'm in a hurry going to Oregon or returning.

This is about the shortest route and I have been up many times visiting relations in Twin Falls. Nice two lane road to vegas.
80/395 is longer but would be my choice if time is not a big issue.

We will be going the opposite direction next week. From So Cal to Bishop on 395 then to Tonopah on US6, to Ely where we pick up 93 through Wells and Jackpot. I have no use for Las Vegas and this is a quieter route in many respects. We will head off US 20 for a side trip to the Mesa Falls, Niagra of the west in my opinion.
