I have a Onan 5.0 BGE Emerald Plus that will start up and run for about 5-7 minutes and shut down. Start it back up and you have to hold the start switch in to keep it running. I have replaced the oil pressure switch, brushes, and the circuit board. Any ideas would be appreaciated. Is this a common problem with onan's? Thanks

Check your manual. There may be a low oil switch and a low oil pressure switch.

Make sure you have more than a 1/4 tank of gas. Mine shuts off when the gas gauge shows less than 1/4.

Lets start with the whole complete model/spec/serial number so we know exactly what you have.

Some have voltage regulators, some don't. Unless we know what you have, it would be guess work and guessing wrong gets expensive.

It does have a voltage regulator. I was told there is a good chance that is what the problem is.

I had the same problem with the 4kw version. The service folks replaced the control board and it worked fine. But, that may not be what your problem is. As said above, there were many different variations of that setup.

I had the same kind of problem later and it turned out to be a low gas level in the tank. It would get just enough gas to start, but, would then starve out.

I was very happy when I found a good generator mechanic
