WE live on the Island & often travel south. We nearly always use the BC Ferries Swartz Bay- Tsawassen route. Not because the ferries are much more modern nor the run is far more scenic, at least than the 'open water' Port Angeles route, but because in the summer they run FOUR ferries on this route rather than the ONE that the US ferries run.
If you have not made a reservation , then the total wait time could be a lot less.
