Hey, it’s all related. Special interests on all sides have stopped the development of the energy resources that they believe are wrong; oil, coal, nuclear, dams, wind mills, you name it! Somehow the clean air groups won out so the only thing left was the natural way, grow your own energy, ethanol. Now the demand for energy crops is competing for limited farmland with the demand for food crops, pushing up the price of both.
But we should feel good knowing that we will be able to breath clean air while we starve to death!

Have you got an old pair of pantyhose? Lay them across a funnel, pour the oil back into the bottle....just make sure the oil isn't still hot! Cheese cloth is probably the best material, but the pantyhose are usually more accessible.
I've tried coffee filters, but they are too restrictive. You aren't trying to clean the oil, just strain the chunks of batter, etc. out, so you don't need to have too fine a screen.

An old pair? They aren't that expensive and the laundry likely leaves some residue that I wouldn't want in my cooking oil. Soap, scent & lint aren't something I want to be eating.
Some are using old cooking oil for fuel. Since Canola oil is twice the price of deisel, then just use the deisel to cook with. Simple solution. That probably wouldn't taste any worse that cooking with panty hose strained grease.
