We carry bottled water for drinks while driving OTR--it's more convenient to make a Crystal Light with a .5 liter bottle now--but we use the tap for cooking, since we usually boil the water for pasta or cooking bags, or for a hot sauce of some type. Adding water to a batter?--it's gonna get sufficiently cooked...why worry? This from someone who needs to watch their intake of "little foreign beasties".

This is my approach. The "bottled" water we consume though is actually water from my tap at home.
I don't worry about the local water system as I generally camp in well-populated areas (somebody else said if the locals can drink it, so can I). However, I am a little paranoid about the pranksters that abound. I always wonder what goes on back at the campground while we're out enjoying whatever there is to enjoy. I don't necessarily think anybody is out to cause harm, but can imagine all sorts of nasty tricks that youngsters can pull out of boredom (I was young once and used to cause mischief just to have something to do). I realize this is a peculiar position to take, but I feel more comfortable taking it.

Glen is definitely right about the CO water, however, really anywhere we have gone, we just hook up to the city water and it has been fine. If there is a disagreeable taste to the city water, I just boil it with coffee grounds and it comes out fine. I never did get a real handle on that bottled water stuff unless I need to pack one while walking.

We sanitize yearly and fill our FW tank at home. It's city water still sanitized with chlorine since our Boro is still working on system upgrades to switch to chloramine. So, sitting idle in the closed system of the tank and plumbing for time is not really a concern. However, we still "bottle" 1 or 2 5-gallon containers for each trip to replenish or thermos bottles for drinking or to cook with. We freely use CG water for bathing, and you can get better filter media.
I agree with others and always taste and smell before you put it in the tank and treat every once in a while. We drink it in CG. I had a friend one time that was in a field of testing water and she said city water is under more regulations than some of the bottled water you buy. Even if it does not taste as good.

Interesting topic....I have filter in the unit for both sinks. My question is, what is the most popular way to sanitize you r tank and lines, what do you use?
Thanks,

We use the tank water for cooking and drinking. We filter it going in, and the built in filter does it coming out, and we sanitize the tank twice per year. No problem yet.
We do carry a small amount of bottled water, though. Don't use it very often.
As for that bisphenol A in the plastic thing -- you would have to drink about 500 bottles of water per day for 20 years to get close to the harmful limit. I think I'll just live dangerously...
