We are wondering about the "water" question. Our friends never use the water in their holding tank for cooking - they always buy bottled water. I'm just wondering, if you have sanitized your tank and lines, why shouldn't you use the water if it is from a good source? We are planning our first trip and are going to fill the fresh water tank with water from our well - we use it for everything here at home so wouldn't it be okay?

Some people never use tap water to drink whereever they may be. For most it is a taste, not a safety issue.
If you properly sanitize your system and put in safe water you should be OK. You might not like the taste though.
We always use water from the tank or from the park, depending on what is available. Sometimes we even fill that tank with water from the park.

I think most of us do not trust CG wells. Home water would do fine....of course that is a lot of weight to haul down the road.

We fill up at the campground but do not consume it. Mainly because we have still not gotten the plastic taste out of the lines/tank. Over time that taste will go away.

We dont consume the tank water or the CG water. We use bottled water. If we had a very good water filtering system, I might reconsider. But for now, it is actually easier to use bottled.

If you have a filter installed for drinking water, there will be no problem. Since we have water in the tank from preveous stop, I check the water for taste before filling with water at the new campground. We have the option to skip water at the new campground if we need to. Don't forget the bottled water you are drinking is someone else's tap water.

Even though we drink bottled water and use tank or cg water only for "all other," I still sanitize the tank and lines about once a year. Between times, if the rig has been unused a few weeks and water in the tank has sat there for a while, I drain it and re-fill with "new" water. I started this simple precaution after having a tank of water go stagnant on me and wasn't even good for flushing the toilet. Most (all?) campground water is or should be tested under state regulations and treated appropriately, but ours at home comes straight from the well and doesn't have that little shot of chlorine to keep the beasties in the tank at bay. On the other hand, it tastes better than most of the stuff that passes for drinking water when we're on the road.

Bottled water is just a scam in many cases. If you look carefully at the label on a lot of water bottles you will see that it is just dechlorinated tap water. Some of it is spring water but not most and my well water is exactly what ends up in the bottled spring water here in North Florida. Our water is from the same aquifer as Ginnie Springs which has a couple of bottling plants. I just shake my head when I see local idiots paying $1 or more a bottle for exactly the same water that comes out of their tap.

I use the CG's water, but have a water filter on my hose, and, I use my Brita pitcher to additionally filter the water before drinking or cooking (overkill I know). In the past I've bought the tiny bottles of water for drinking, and saved the empties which I wash out, refill with home water and freeze for the cooler and later drinking/cooking.
I sanitize my holding tank and lines in the spring, but do not tow with water in the tank - but, when the unit is parked at home I will have the tank pretty full as I open my PUP when we have power failures. But, I still filter the water through my Brita pitcher before drinking/cooking.

We've all heard the expression... Don't drink the water in Mexico.... Well it's the same everywhere. Your system (body) gets used to YOUR water. We take OUR water with us, usually about 1/2 to 2/3 of a tank. My holding tank normally contains mostly MY home water... sometimes it gets diluted w/ CG water if they don't have hookups. Yes, I know it weighs more going down the road... yes I know I use more fuel, but my digestive system doesn't suffer and ultimately, I have more fun. I don't worry too much about the extra weight... I have a Chevy....
If they have hookups, we use the CG water for showers.
