I have a question for all. If your on medications and fulltiming how do you manage your Dr. visits for medication refills while on the road? Thanks

I have my annual check up with my doctor and she refills my prescriptions for a full year. If you are full timing, you don't really have a base of operations, so I'd suggest carrying your personal medical records with you. Then when the time is nearing for prescription refills and an annual exam, set one up where ever you are. Some urgent care and walk in care facilities will do that for you, but calling ahead is the thing to do. Many will refer you to a local family practice. Be sure to take your current medications including over the counter ones, AND you current medical record with you to your appointment.

We make sure that we see our internist each year as we pass through Texas and have all tests, etc., done then. Meds are simple - we use a mail order pharmacy for maintenance meds and then contact the physician's office when a new refill for the year is needed. We get them 3 months worth at a time.

we actually travel to go visit our kids and our doctors once a year...
..the meds we have half with mail order and the other have we have with a national chain so we can always get refills from their system......we choose walmart as it works for us....but there are many national companies that woulod work the same....
when we get to an area we kinda ask around about medical providers in the area so we have a idea before any situations arise......
plus our home doctors have been receptive to phone help/support also....

We stop each year in a town where we lived years ago to visit relatives and see our old doctor to get new prescriptions.
We have had a couple of prescriptions run out a couple of times before we got back there and just called him and he sent a renewal to the Walmart in his town. We either call them and have them mail the prescription to us or we go to a local Walmart and have them get it transfered to their store.

Our regular doctors know our life style and will call in prescriptions for us to a local CVS. Then we just have them filled wherever we are at the time. We have our checkups when we're in town.

Most of us who have serious continuing maintenance medications return annually to the same doctor for a check-up and prescription renewals. We then use a mail order service for regular medications. For one time medical needs we just go to a local "Doc in the Box" or emergency physician service.

I have to have blood work done every three months to monitor my medication. My doctor writes me orders for this that I take to a lab/clinic wherever I happen to be. They send the results to her. I see her when I am in the area, at least once a year. I have been seeing this doctor for about 20 years so we are on good working terms. I get my medication filled through a mail order house.

What I started running into was that Doc's liability insurance was requiring patients to be physically seen by Doc and have BP taken in office. Despite the fact that I had been taking and recording my BPs daily (Far better info than one time in Doc's office).

Don't you just love it when your medical treatment is dictated by an insurance company instead of your Doctor
