Actually the Prius is a mid-sized car. and has plenty of legroom in the back, but it is a bit short on rear headroom. However, I suspect few people buy or don't buy a car based on rear seat comfort. As far as the ride goes, that is one of the reasons why we bought a Civic hybrid instead of a Prius--a much improved ride, and we couldn't care less what the comfort in the rear seat is.

I for one do care what the rear seat comfort is although I never ride there. I was in a car pool with a Datsun hatchback and that was dreadful. every bump I hit my head on the roof and I am short.

And what is the average auto they got that # from??? EVERY similar sized 4 cylinder vehicle is at least 2/3 or better efficient to any Prius. And a diesel VW gets better every day fuel economy than the over hyped Prius.

The Prius is the #1, I will say it again #1 most fuel efficient vehicle on the market today. Period. Just look it up! anywhere. I know what it does, I drive it everyday and until you do the same you have no basis for your comments. I get 51mpg on the Hwy and 53mpg in town and this is a hilly town.

who cares? it's still a TOYota......and if we'd pump some of our own oil, we wouldn't give a c*** about MPG
unless of course, you buy into man made global warming, it that case, the money you save can be used on Therapy......

Got news for ya (on the oil thing).
Supply is not the problem.
Refineries are actually cutting back on production.

Believe what you wish.
Bend over at the pump.

That explains why the world price for a barrel of oil is $127.

That may be true for gas but we are exporting diesel.

All you have to do it look inside the owners manual. It states cannot be tow 4 down. But it can be towed on a dolly.

There were four main reasons we didn't purchase a hybrid for our tow vehicle.

1. Not one that we looked at was certified by the manufacturer to be flat towed. (I can't guarantee we looked at all of them, but I think we did.)

2. We were extremely disappointed when told that even if they could be towed flat down that the regenerative charging system would not top off the batteries.

3. We didn't want to get involved in trying to find qualified hybrid repair facilities at remote locations.

4. The price differential vs increased mileage over something like a Toyota Yaris or Scion Xa wasn't enough, in our view.

Which was shame since we liked the idea of a high mileage tow vehicle.

1. None were 4 down towable? The Ford Escape Hybrid, The Mercury Mariner Hybrid, and the Mazda Tribute Hybrid. ALL are 4-down towable according to the manufacturer.

Even if it would, that energy doesn't come free. More rolling resistnence = more power required from the MH = lower MPG.

What you need if you want economy and 4 down is the new Smart car - plenty of room inside for 2 people - we get 50+ mpg and if you are really careful you can get nearer 65mpg.

Enough room for 90% of your journeys and immense fun.

They also survive really well when hitting 'real' cars - I can show you a vid of the impact tests with a Mercedes S Class.

Really expensive in the US and a waiting list - so import one from Europe where you can buy used for less than $5000.

You can even order a really fast one LOL
