Nick,
On my '94 HR Imperial, I had a similar problem. I traced it down to the connection at the pump motor. I was taking a voltage reading and noticed that the connector MOVED when I probed it. Closer inspection showed that both the ground and the positive wire lugs were WAY loose. While doing that, I noticed that one of the 2 bolts that hold the pump/reservoir assembly in place was missing. I replaced the bolt, cleaned the terminals up, tightened everything and it's been fine ever since.
YMMV

I've been fighting a similar problem with mine since last September, HWH 625 series. My failures would occur during the retraction phase of jack/room operation. I would detect a hot wire/electrical smell each time but could not isolate the source. Manual retractions of the rooms and jacks - a real pain - were the only way to get the coach configured for travel. Working with Randy, HWH Tech Support over the phone, I got the control panel LED readings he requested while having DW hold a jack extension button/arrow. Things pointed to the pump motor. Next step was to take voltage readings or test light illuminations on all the relay terminals except for the small jumper wire between the two relays with DW holding a jack extension button. (I used a test light.) Power detected on the main power terminal to the relay. When I scratched the terminal for the small wire which runs to the "grey" plug - must be a relay activation control signal wire - the pump began to operate normally again. Based on that information, HWH sent me a replacement relay. I certainly hope that is the cure. I will report back after the relay has been replaced. (I did not find any loose connections on the pump motor or relays.)
