Hi - headed West thru Ottawa from Montreal area on towards Sault Ste marie a week from now - think that tends to be a busy weekend - just looking for a campsite for the night - no hookups needed - boondocking OK - input appreciated! ST

This is the long weekend, so next weekend should be fine. How far do you plan to travel that day?

Shouldn't be a too busy a weekend. Our long weekend falls on 17-19.
I second JMTTS, It's a good site, exit 134 on HWY 417

Also...
A warning word... BLACKFLIES!
They are starting to hatch and could be in full bloom by the time you get here, depends on the weather. Bring bug juice, if you plan on being outdoors a lot, look to buy screened bug jackets.

Ah yes, Blackflies! They are our State Bird here in NH! Drove us inside this afternoon from a cookout - nasty little beasts! I think they were making DEET cocktails for happy hour!!! Proud owner of a bug jacket, too! makes working outside do-able! Will check the Ontario CG link - thanks! ST

It's a small campground on the hillside, between the main highway, which is 50 km/h thru town, and it's on the shores of Muskrat Lake. Overall it is well kept. Not sure if they still have camping there. If they do, I think it would be fine for an overnight stop. Cobden has a big gas station (Shell) nearby, plus you can stock up over on main street, if you need to.

There's also a KOA in Renfrew, a few miles east of Cobden. There is also Yonder Hill Campground between Renfrew and Cobden plus one other that escapes me right now (might be like Pinewood Park -- seasonal only).

There's also a larger nicer municipal campground in Pembroke, on the shores of the Ottawa River. In fact, I worked there when I was in high school. Pembroke is 20 miles west of Cobden and is the major centre in the county.
