We live in Andover, MA and want to do two nights this spring to open up the popup and make sure everything is working, as well as take inventory.

Within 30 minutes of our house are two campgrounds: Black Bear in Salisbury and Minuteman in Boston.

When I was a kid, Black Bear was pretty sketchy.

Your opinions are appreciated. We have two kids--age 4 and 8 who like to swim and still enjoy playgrounds.

Thanks!

What about Wompatuck SP? I was thinking about using it for a CG while we spend a couple of days looking at Boston. You can supposedly get the MTA at Braintree.

I recommend salisbury as well. We stay there a few time a year as well.Heading up there next weekend as a matter of fact for Mem. day weekend/daughters birthday party. I was not impressed with Black Bear at all.

I also live in the area. We bought a new rig last year and learned that the Merrimack Valley is not exactly a camping mecca. We did do a lot of weekend trips to get used to the whole experience.

I think Salisbury Beach Reservation or the Hampton Beach State Park would be tops on my list. We also did a bunch of trips up north like Danforth Bay in Freedom and Norhtport RV in Northport, Maine.. near Belfast and that was cool.

Also like Circle 9 Ranch in Epsom NH. A rather shabby place but a very cool dance hall that had an exceptional band.

Our home base in that area is Beach Rose RV in Salisbury MA but more of a park the rig and get in the toad kind of place. Drove thru Rusnik looks better than BlackBear.

BTW - If you google Salisbury Beach Sand & Sea festival you'll see last weekend June is cool stuff and big fireworks AND tall ships in harbor mid July tours and such along with you guessed it more fireworks

If you have young kids I reccomend Minute Man Campground. Very Family oriented, they have a nice play ground, it has been owne by the same family for over twenty years. Plus the area has dairy farms for tours and ice cream and mini golf. We fell in love with this CG because it is close and simple for a last minute getaway! I highly reccomend it and if you have any questions send me a PM. I have a 4 yo and 19 month old twin girls, there is no tomfoolery at this CG just a good time for the family!

I love Salisbury but wouldn't recommend going there in a pop up, there is NO shade and it can get HOT. Years ago we had friends in a pop up there when we were there and they spent the whole time in our A/C. I didn't mind at all, but they were bummed out that it was so hot that they couldn't even enjoy their own site. I guess days that get that hot are rare and they were just unlucky. It's such a cool place, close to everything, and they take DOGS, Hampton State Beach (and most NH State Parks) don't.

I would strongly recommend Minuteman Campground which is located in Littleton, Mass.not Boston. Excellent facilities with great sites and as someone else has mentioned it has been owned by the same family for many years, they also own 2 other camgrounds on Cape Cod.You will not be disappointed and the kids will have a great time. Also you are not that far from Boston and there is alot to see and enjoy in surrounding communities to the campground. Good luck.
