My parents are still going this summer, they said it was worth it no matter what the cost. I will probably venture there next year.

I had planed a 2 month trip with my wife flying up, now it's down to a 700 mile trip to Utah on her time off. We will make a few short trips to the mountains not far from home.

The fuel costs a thousand or so more. If you can't afford the difference, you shouldn't have been planning to go in the first place.

My DW and I are still going come hell or high gas prices! Our plan is a 15,000 mile round trip and we are selling everything not needed on eBay to pay for the increased diesel! (Hey my DW finally got me to clean the basement and garage!). Seriously, we have planned this for many years, We are 48 & 50 and have sabbaticals planned for the three month trip. We may never get another chance, so we are leaving in 44 days (but who's counting!)

We leave JULY 27. Life's to short to cut out the good things. We'll adjust in other ways such as not trying as many local resturents as we normally do but we are still going.

I think one must put things into perspective. It's difficult during these turbulent economic times to do this but if you don't it's possible to give up some of the things you love the most like RV travel. A 10,000 mile trip @ 8mpg = 1250 gallons of fuel @ $4.00 gallon = $5,000. @ $5.00 gallon = $6,250. @ $6.00 gallon = $7,500. I know the extra cost isn't pocked change for most of us; but perhaps giving up some restaurant meals, etc. would off set the extra fuel cost. Although we are not planning an Alaska trip this year I can say for sure that we are not cutting back our travel plans. We will just make up the difference in other places.
