Another vote for the 700.
I've riddden a few quads and the 700 is by far the best all around quad out there. I have done the three mods to this thing. And for the riding I have done with it has been great, plenty of power. Point it uphill and go. On the trails it gets me thru whatever I can throw at it. I haven't been to the dunes with any quad yet but I can't wait to try it. I'm sure it'll be great there too. When we go out on our trips we usually have quite a few quads with us on the rides. And for me what I like to do is hang way back let the dust settle from everybody else. Then just get on the throttle and catch up to them. I have more fun that way.

Sand Sports Magazine just did a showdown on all the 450 Sport Quads.

If you can get your hands on the March/April 2008 issue, it might give you some insight in making your decision. The testers included pro racers, amateur racers, and recreational riders.

Fuel injection sounds good as I live at about 5,760 feet and would like to ride the dunes in Colorado, Utah and California.

I'd Rather be in Moab!

I ride a 2005 TRX450R, and absolutly love it. But I will admit, if I could have gotten the new Raptor then I would have. I ride with a big group of guys here in Utah from the Dunereview.com forums, and most of the guys have 700R's.

You also might want to look into the Suzuki LTR450, EFI and wider than all the stock quads. Once you Cherry bomb them and pipe them they really wake up. The new 08's are noticably quicker than the 07's too.

To be honest, you really can't go wrong with any of the 450's, or the 700.

What did they change on the 08 LTR that makes it noticably faster. A few guys I ride dunes with have 07 LTR's that they are starting to heavily modify (cams, piston, porting) so they can keep up with my DS on the hill

Not sure, I've just seen the difference. I think Dirt Wheels also said there was a power increase when they tested the new 08's.

When you say your "DS", are you talking about a 650, or the new 450?

One mmore vote for the Raptor.
Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience on other quads.

But the power delivery makes it easy to ride, as you don't have to think so much about choosing the right gear...with this much torque, almost any gear will do.

And there's enough power, especially with the Big 3 mods, that it's got a lot of power to keep you satisfied.

IMHO it's an ideal power delivery for trail-type riding as well.

I have a 2005 YFZ 450. I love it. It does great in the dunes. Mine has always been easy to start. I have the White Brothers exhaust, K&N filter with outerwear, twist throttle & rejetted carb. I have run it in the mountains between El Centro & San Diego. I am sure the fuel injection is better, but I have never missed the reverse.

Hubby still rides his 88 250r in the dunes. He said he'll eventually go to the 4stroke but when he does, it's the trx450r. In fact, we'll upgrade my 400ex to the 450 when Honda is fuel injected....

So his advice....find another 250r!
