"Finally someone who states facts. I guess everybody feels that campground owners don't need to keep up with the rising cost of living and doing business. They should just "suck up" and cut their own profits just so we can pay the same for a campsite that we paid 10 or more years ago."
I cant imagine where you were camping ten years ago, but we paid an average of 9 bucks a night . Highest we paid in 1998 was 22 dollars, in the biggest metro area of calif.
I ask you again, if a park has 100 sites and has a 15% increase, do they raise every site 15% or how do you think they should get their increase? Do you think they deserve an increase in profits from last year and if yes, how much? How much increase did you get in your pay check and how much did your cost go up?
What is it now at lakewood in Myrtle Beach, we went two years ago, beachfront was I think 60 to 70 dollars, that's fine, it was worth it too us but the first time we went there was June/July 1971, it was $6.00 a night, almost the exact same spot too. But we still think it's a bargain.
Don't forget liability insurance, workman's comp insurance, payroll taxes, energy costs, salary and wages. In some parts of the country these add up to really big bucks.
Oh, and then there is the funny idea of making a profit and building a savings.
Yes some places seem costly, but I still see campgrounds and rv resorts that cater to all levels of campers and rv'ers.
Within every disadvantage is the seed of an equal or greater advantage.
have owned campground..it is almost a non profit bussines unless it is a highly visited resort area, cost have almost doubled in 5 years.only raised rates $4 a night,if your a good accountant figure the numbers on this....my utilities were the worst, almost 5 o6 thousand a month for electric and water let alone heating buildings .fuel for maintenance roads ,mowing weed eating, sewer upkeep.
Me and my Wife Connie .Puppies,Candie,Beauregard,mollie. 2006 itaska suncruiser 38 gasser.we used to own a campground in Nebraska City. In January we go to Tulsa Okla for the Chili Bowl races. From there we go south for about a month or so.
If you are really interested in rising rates of campgrounds, google the following:
Alcona campground and rv park in Mich 1998 rates. You will find the exact same web page they had then, and then google them 2008. Exact same webpage, only updated to todays prices.
Wonder how they stay in business? Good management...... TWO DOLLAR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 1998 AND 2008.............CHECK IT OUT.
Do the same for any rv park in business over ten years, it may open some eyes.
1. The interest paid on the trailer is deductible.
2. If I would have to pay for a hotel room for 5 for 7-10 days, the bill would be much more then $500 dollars. I usually stay at Jellystones ... kids love them or KOA's; occasionally some nice privately owned.
3. And this is a biggy - I know who slept in the bed the night before.
4. We dont spend alot on restaurants. We do go out but munch and have many more meals in the camper then we would if we had a hotel room.
5. When camping we are in our (2nd) home.
.. and now with this bed bug outbreak .. man ... who wants to stay in a hotel room with that ... The wife and I are going on a motorcycle trip at the end of this month. Im sure I wont get a decent nights sleep ... YUK !!
