I have read a few posts on Sacramento. It seems there are good places and not so good places to stay. I will be there for a week next year. I am starting to make reservations now. Please give me some input on what is a good family place to stay in the area. We will have a tow vehicle with us. Thank You.
Well Sacramento is a really big city and such does not have a lot of upscale rv parks in the city. There is one at Cal Expo but it is pretty basic. There is a KOA on Lake Washington in West Sacramento. I work in West Sac. Nice town to work in but not for vacations. Pass on the KOA. There are some nice parks nearby. The Folsom Recreation Area is nice. On Folsom Lake. Get out a guide book and look some up.
If you can there are some nice areas out in the delta and it won't be as hot as staying in Sacramento.

The last time I checked (I could be wrong), but I think The Folsom Recreation Area is dry camping only.
Cal Expo RV Park is pretty much a parking lot. There is some shade located near the edges of the park and a few trees scattered throughout the parking area. Cal Expo is not a destination park. It is clean and well maintained and is centrally located for the Sac area.
We used to live in Sacramento and when we lived there the area where the park is located was not the best. We stayed at Cal Expo RV Park a few years ago and felt very comfortable with our stay at Cal Expo.
These are not meant to be negative comments. Cal Expo is great for overnighters (it's within a mile or two of the freeway and easy to get to) and a good base camp when visting the Sac area.
When we get back to the Sac area we will stay there again.

For overniters or maybe even a week the Cal Expo RV Park is pretty decent. The park itself doesnt have any amenities but it is right next to the American River and the River Trail. If you have bikes bring your bikes and pedal the trail. The park itself will have construction workers and people who are staying for maybe a month or two working in the area. The park is near downtown Sacramento and you will also quickly find out Sacramento has a lot of transients. There is a Detox center right next to the park and you will probably see a big sign warning you to lock your stuff up when you enter the park. Rancho Seco is a pretty nice place but its a long ways from downtown Sacramento.
Beals Point in the Folsom Lake park system is your best bet.
Full hookups, lots of trees and miles of bike trails running all over.
I live near there.
The park at Cal Expo is very basic but closer to downtown and it also has full hookups.
