We have a Carefree Eclipse (electric) awning on our 2005 Granite Ridge.
All of a sudden one side of the awning will not extend out when we activate the switch to extend it. The motor runs and the awning "roll" turns but one side will not extend itself out from the motorhome, without a helping hand from one of us. The other side of the awning extends fine.
The awning seems to retract fine on both sides.
There are struts on each arm of the awning. Could it be a bad strut?
Any ideas?

I have the exact same RV and awning. I had the same problem last year and took it back to the dealer. The dealer kept it for 2 months and couldn't fix it. Carefree refused to replace it. I hired an RV repairman, he couldn't fix it. If I park it on the most level spot I can find it works fine. I don't have a solution but, wish you good luck with it.

Presently we are camping at an RV resort and I have a RV Technician coming to our site in a couple of hours to try and repair a few things, and one of them is the awning.
We haven't put our awning out yet this weekend because of the windy conditions. After reading your post I thought I had better go out and try the awning again because I had ony tried to extend it recently in our driveway at home, and our driveway is on a slope so I thought it would be worth trying it when the MH is perfectly level.
Well, no luck, it still needs a helping hand to get it to extend on the one end.
Your post doesn't give me a lot of confidence in getting this fixed.
Our rig is out of warranty, and I noticed the warranty on the awning only extends (no pun intended) to the original purchaser...and that "ain't" us.

This has happened to mine as well. 2005 Jayco GR with the carefree eclipse. Ever since a gust of wind blew the awning up over the rig and slammed the arms back in to the house. I have never tried to get it fixed, just helped it along each time. Interested to see if a new strut will fix it. Will follow this thread closely.

I emailed Carefree customer service today and explained my awning's "symptoms" and the person who responded said it definitely sounds like a bad gas shock (strut).
Earlier today I called a Jayco dealer and inquired as to the cost of the gas shock......$100.00 plus shipping. Ouch!
Does anybody know if they are easy or hard to install?

I have a 2005 Granite Ridge with the same Colorado Free electric awning. The awning worked fine when I got the MH new. Then I changed the pitch so the water would run off. Now I find that if the MH is not level, sometimes one of the struts needs a little help when putting it out. Most times when level it works fine without help. It's not a motor problem as gravity helps to lower the awning. I spray the gas shocks and pivots with silacon.
I think it's just part of the design and you gotta live with it.
Overall I think it's better than the ones you gotta put up and down manually. Especially in the middle of the night when a thunderstorm is brewing and you are in your under shorts.

I took our MH in and had the gas shock on the awning replaced last week. It works fine now.
We are new to "motorhoming" but so far it seems that anything that is made for an RV is twice the cost it should be.
