Looking ay the specs on the Carri-lite: most of their pin wts. DRY are over 3000 lbs. I would think loaded you would want more then an F-350 to tug them around.
But hey thats my opinion....some would pull them with less.

I looked at the Carri-lites last week and was pretty impressed but the dry weight and total weight are intimidating, I assume I would need at least a Ford 450 to pull it. Going to look at a Cedar Creek Daydreamer this week and from what I see on the internet they look well equiped but the weight is sooo much less than the Carri-lite, what gives?

Carriage hands down if your going to pick between the two it isn't even close. If you have doubts head to Elkhart and tour the two factories see how the units are built and that will sum it up. Carriage did one of the best tours we did out there.

This is actually too funny to reply to. "Carriage wins hands down" But in their signature they are towing a ??? Hitchiker??

Buy what YOU like the best and don't look back. Every manufacturer can have bad days.

Yep I have a Hitchhiker doesn't mean I didn't look at other units before buying. The OP asked about two companies two units of the two in my opinion the Carriage is the better choice by far.

I am glad that I amused you though.

When I went to the RV Show went in a Carraige Cameo and a Cedar Creek and to me they are both nice and comparable.

Now the Carri-Lite looks to be stepup from the Cedar Creek but not much difference than the Cedar Creek Daydreamer. Well that's what I seen by looking at them.

Hi. I am new to this forum. We presently have a Citation Supreme and we are planning to go full timing soon. We have looked at a lot of fifth wheels in the last year and have narrowed our first choice down to a Carri-Lite with 4 or 5 slides and loaded up with options. We feel they are a good unit and the dealership where we will probably buy from has been a good business place. I am planning to tow with our 3500 DRW which is well equipped for towing. I know this is pushing the numbers but I have towed heavier with no problems.

well I just purchased a 35RLTS a Jayco Designer and feel it has everything we need in a fifth wheel. Had a 2002 eagle 5th wheel and never had any major problems so I feel Jayco is a good product.

Slow six, do you realize that a Silverado or Seirra 3500 with DRW has a rated towing capacity of only 15900 and a loaded Carri-lite ia approx. 18000lbs?

I started with the lightest rv I could find and it was absolute junk. Then a couple more (a little heavier each time) and they weren't as bad but still didn't hold up good, at all. My last two have been sunnybrooks and they have held up awesome. I doubt if I'll buy another SB cuz there's no dealers around here but I will stay with the heavier units from now on - they certainly hold up better. I've learned it's much better to buy a bigger truck than to buy below midgrade rvs. A good friend has had 2 Cedar Creeks and nothing major but he sure complains about a lot of small problems. Craig

Comparing a Cedar Creek to a Carrilite is kind of like comparing compact car to a fullsize one. If you already have a 1 ton dually and want a Carriage product, please take a look at the Cameo models. Somewhat lighter and almost as nice. We have several Carrilites in our group and I agree - an F450 would be a good tow vehicle choice.

BTW - Carriage's dry weights as stated in the brochure or website are pretty accurate. Each unit is individually weighed when they come off the line and they are +/- the state dry weight depending on options.

Saftman,

As you had said! Cedar Creek is rated for "Snow Bird use", 6 months continuous use per year. Does that mean it's only 1/2 as good as the Carriage 5'ers because the Carriage is rated and fully warranted for 12 months a year use as "full timers" must do? 12 / 6 = 2! 26 weeks vs 52 weeks per year. Might be very telling! I'm NOT saying a Cedar Creek is a bad 5'er but there sure is a difference in the units to double the use ratings by their manufacturer's and the "rating" groups.

Food for thought!
