I noticed alot of people say they stay in tow/haul mode all of the time. I have a 2007 Chevy 2500 diesel and a 6500-7000 lb TT. Would you recommend using tow/haul even on flat ground? Is there a time where you wouldn't use it?

In my F250, I "set it and forget it". I always run in "Tow Haul" any time when towing. I let the truck's computer figure out what it wants to do with the engine and transmission.

If you are towing...YES. Leave it in tow/haul all the time.
Changes the shift points and helps keep the Allison cooler.

Not only that, with the Allison the grade braking is not active unless tow/haul is on.

I drive, She navigates and researches places to go & stuff to do, The kid doesn't care where we go as long as we go, & Abbey the adventure pup refuses to be left behind!

I have found that after coming out of hilly terrain the TH mode will keep me in 5th for a long time, even when I'm on level ground and it's level for as far as I can see. I tested it by shutting off TH, in which it shifted up to 6th, then turning TH back on and the truck remained in 6th. Now how much that will affect your MPG's may be negligible. Maybe it's my TH computer that's the problem, but it seems to work great the rest of the time especially going down grades. I always have mine on, but will sometimes shut it off and back on when I feel it's warranted.

I travel on flat land and never use TH. It changes the feel of the truck so much I feel like I'm driving a tractor. Also, it doesn't shift gears until 2300-2400 rpm, which is over the point where the diesel has developed it's max torque. When I leave the trans in standard mode, I can make it shift at 2000 rpm. I can also manage to keep it in overdrive with my foot on most small hills.

And then the engine will have to lug back 'up' to the peak torque, there is a reason Ford wanted it to shift at 2400 rpm. It is of course your truck, so I wont tell you how to drive it..........but you dont know better than Ford.

One more vote for leaving it in tow/haul mode any time you hitched up.
