I remember long ago seeing an old can of "Malted Barley" that was made during Prohibition. On the side of the can was the warning "CAUTION: mixing the contents with the following inredients will result in the illegal beverage known as BEER!" It then proceeded to give the ingredients and exact amounts of each, and instructions, for making home brew.

He certainly was.

Survey: Does anybody actually ever read a warning label? Or if you do read them, how many read them after you used the item only to find out you broke the safety rules?

I do, usually when I am bored, or when I have already broken the safety rule.

I do read them if it is a chemical I have never used before. I don't like taking chances with that.

Must by urban myth. Years ago, on scuba camp in Greece I shaved my head. With no sunblockers available still the burned skin on my behind was much worse, than "crunchy" skin on my head.

Good one, and we as humans have been following the safety rules just as well ever since (i.e., not).

For some reason this thread reminds me of the most common Southerner's last words: "Hold my beer and watch this..."

Stihl chainsaws are made in Sweden.

None of the Sweedish sold models have any warnings at all on them. Only U.S. sold models have warning labels on them.

As was quoted by a Sweedish Stihl chainsaw user: "No self respecting Swede would ever admit to injuring himself, or causing an accident with a improperly used chainsaw"

It used to be that way in the US too. Then a laywer figured out they could make money because someone was stupid.

I think we have to leave out Adam and Pandora. The tree/apple and the box were not actually labeled

I believe the earliest warning labels were the 'skull and crossbones', just don't know how far back it goes.
