Illinois state beach is right there in North Chicago.
It's a so so place, the town in it's in is not nice.
Actually there are some 'very' nice CG's just north of the stateline. Which would only take 10 minutes trip to 6 flags.
Happy Acres CG and Bong Rec State Park, are both a hop skip and jump to Great America.
These would be my pick to stay at.
Both are in Wisconsin, and can be found on line.
Happy Camping!

I would second Chain-o-Lakes. The park itself is nice, they upgraded facilities relatively recently and have nice showers/bathrooms, in a nice general area and as stated, probably no more than 30 minutes from "the flags". If you're interested, there is hiking in the park and fishing. In season, there are boat rentals (as in canoe/rowboat). That may not happen until after Memorial Day. It's a State Park and given it's proximity to Chicago, really nice....
