I want to reply on your first adventure. Stay closer to home the first couple trips. You have plenty of time and hopefully you have some weekends off to find some state parks or campgrounds with in an hour drive of your home to get a feel and get use to what you need in your rig. Our first couple trips we were making long list of items we need to keep on hand and what we decided we did not need. Good luck and go have some fun. As someone said it is now a good excuse to go buy that big truck but you should be fine and find out if you like it first.

This is so helpful... thanks so much. I'm feeling very overwhelmed at the moment. Excited, but overwhelmed!
We have booked a site on a campground in Maine in August - about 750 km (460 miles) from home, so I want to make sure we will be safe on our first adventure!

Carry a gas can with you. As you'll find you will get crud for mileage when towing. Since you haven't experienced the real mileage yet it will be hard to plan ahead for gas stops. On a trip that big you might find yourself a little underprepared when it comes to fuel so carry some. My truck gets 21 average as a daily drive. Towing about 9-11 depending on the terrain and how much I carry. Everyone here will tell you the same story about mileage. It goes way down when towing.. especially when towing close to capacity.

For what its worth - Towed a 19' TT with a scale weight of just under 4K (ready to go) for two seasons with the same kind of truck. Even went over the Rockies and back twice. The 4.3 makes max torque at a low RPM and is a very hard working engine. Slowed down on long grades. I used an equal-i-ler hitch and a prodigy controller and never had a problem. Mileage was between 10-11 mph.

I don't know how it is where you live, but in my neck of the woods, I have 3 business days to return the trailer and cancel the contract.
That could be an option. Then you could get the proper size trailer for your truck. OR you can always buy a new truck!

I agree. I would return the TT asap. Not only do you have the the right to cancell the contract, you were ALSO seriously mislead by the salesperson.

One trip to the Dealers 'General Manager' is all it should take.

You will be very unhappy pulling that TT with your truck if it even can, AND more importantly it is a dangerous combination.

This is the worst place in the world to ask about whether your trailer is too heavy. The reason why is that half the posters on this thread are retired USAF loadmasters or whatever they call the guys who load planes. The other half are retired pilots who are always concerned about some guy named Max Gross sneaking on board. I dont think you are going to be overloaded and if you are it certainly wont be like some of the other rigs I see out on the road. Besides to be legally over weight you would have to exceed the weight specifications for the tires or axels. That is very unlikely. Have fun.

I just don't know how I tow my trailer with my truck with all the experts on here saying I can't.

I have just over 1200 miles on the truck and trailer in the last 30 days, and maybe 2500 something in the past 60 days. 1500 were in and around the Rocky Mountains towing up 7, 8 and 9 percent grades. Biggest grade I have pulled was 10%. I also had no problem coming down this grade safely, even though there are hairpin turns on it that require less than 10 MPH.

About to head out tomorrow again.

I have no idea anymore how many total miles that my truck has been towing. Maybe 15000-20000?

To the original poster, you won't be the fastest thing on the road, but you are towing, you shouldn't be. Some of these guys on here will spend your money faster than you make it

Just keep your vehicle maintained, change the tranny fluid every 15,000 miles, and you will be golden.

Have fun.

If you have the 3 day rule you may be able to get out of the deal. Check into it. Most states have a 3 day rule where you can back away from a deal even if you payed money down. I think this might apply..........good luck..
