My husband and I are traveling from Ohio to South carolina Hunting Beach State Park in September this year. Could anyone suggest a good campground off 77 to stay in at North Carolina on our way down to South Carolina? We would likre to stay close to the interstate so when we go to get back on.

I created a Google Map of CGs in the Charlotte Metro area.

I hope it helps.

My husband and I camped on Hunting Island last week, it was beautiful. We traveled from Knoxville Tennessee and spent the night in a WalMart parking lot. They allow RVs to spend one night in their lot as a stop over.

Ebenezer County Park in Rock Hill SC just south of Charlotte. $10 a night for full hookups if you are over 60. About 4-5 miles off freeway, on a big lake and very quiet even though it is surrounded by houses.

We are going back to Hunting Island SP (third time) in November. Our tentative plans include a stopover in Stone Mountain SP in NC. It's 40 minutes off I-77 but it sounds like it's worth the drive. Check it out on the web.

If you are visting your sister in Waxhaw, try Union County NC county park Cane Creek. It is located just right outside Waxhaw, so you can stop to see her and overnight there too. Stopping along 1-77 to camp would be crazy in that situation. It is only 2-1/2 from the VA/NC state line to Waxhaw!

We stayed at the Statesville, NC. KOA last summer on our way from Ohio to Myrtle Beach. About a 7.5 hr drive from Akron. CG is just off of I-77. CG is good for an overnight stop and mostly pull-thru sights so you don't have to unhook. Camping World close by. As I said, good for an overnight stop so don't expect anything special. Safe, and friendly staff. We are stopping there again this summer for a stop-over on our way to Disney.

Agree with topwop39 on the Statesville KOA. Perfect overnight spot. Easy on & off I 77 at Exit 45. Exit 50 has several restaurants & Camping World is just minutes away. It is safe!! Take advantage of KOA now; it will probably be sold for a large development that is in the works.

We make the trip from Southwest Ohio to Charleston several times a year. We find Camp Creek State Park, exit 20 in West Virginia works well. It is about 3 miles off the interstate (no road noise) very scenic, electric only with central water points. Rates about $20. In fact we were there Thursday Night.

I see an earlier poster has listed Ebenezer Park. It is works as well.
