Has anyone used the new Ziplock vac. packing device? I had large food save brand which worked well until I couldn't replace/fix the rubber gaskets. Since these are rather expensive I was wondering how well the Ziplock ones worked.

There has been a couple of well documented threads on the topic if you can navigate the search function.

They work real well, but I have trouble reusing the bags and that makes them expensive.

My wife bought one for the camper. It works great! We especially like it for things (like cheese) that we want to use part of and reseal. It's much easier to open the zip-lock bags and to reseal them than it is to reseal with the older style sealer.

While the bags are more expensive (they aren't exactly cheap for the other sealer), the sealer itself is $7 compared to $100 for the older style.

I expect we will get one of the zip-lock sealers for the house, too.

When my grown kids were inspecting our new fifth wheel, one asked why we bought a trailer that sleeps 4. My reply was that we couldn't find one that sleeps 2!

Mine is still a work in progress. The bags have a mesh section that collects run off, and if its blood or something similar, its impossible to clean. I've done some by wrapping in clear wrap and freezing , and then vacuum packing it. If you defrost out of the bag it keeps them clean and as long as they're not punctured by a bone, reusable.

I use their Reynolds one that you can buy at Walmart for about $7.00. I bought the gallon size bags. I have found that if you use the cheap bags from glad called the Glad Twist and Tie, you get 100 of them, work the best for meat and fish. Just put your food in the glad bags and fold over. Then put in the Reynolds bags and vacuum down. When you take out of freezer, take the food out of the Reynolds bag and defrost. I have a cutting board with a handle and I put the Reynolds bag over the handle to dry out. I have reused them many times without a problem.

This month's Consumer Reports tested the Reynolds Handi-Vac Sealer and called them " the real deal".
