People must like running around making impulse decisions without considering all the factors...they do it all the time.
Kenneth, you sound like you work for the Gov't.
Only read as far as your post on the first page of this thread, but, let's face it! Nobody gets into RVing because of fuel economy! We do it because we want to arrive with a certain amount of comfort close at hand, despite the cost--or maybe because of it!
It's still cheaper, even at $4.599/gal. for diesel--even in our case this week--to drive cross-country and stay 5 days then drive back, than it is for 2 to fly, rent a car for 5 days, rent a hotel room for 5 nights, then fly back. Trust me, I just checked this morning, and I'm a travel agent.

Selling an RV is this market is like selling Stock when the Stockmarket is down you will take a real bath/loss. Just park it if you can't afford to fill it and wait till better times. Life is too short to worry about it now and besides you can't take it with you anyway when it is your time to go. JMO

I'm afraid it's not that simple.
If a person decides to sell, there's almost always several reasons. It's not just that it shocks you to go fill up, it's also the fact that you don't have as many leisure dollars anymore. EVERYTHING costs more now, yet very salaries have gone up at the same rate as all the expenses. Not only that, but there is a lot of doubt about the future. Let's face it, we've never had so many good/bad reasons to sell.
To be honest, I'm not really sure why mine is not for sale. I can almost guaranty that if I were making payments on it, I would bail out,.....cut my loses.

In 2002 when our rig was new at a cost of $181,000 (with taxes, extras etc etc) diesel cost $1.35 gallon.
Today the monthly payment is still $1200 a month and diesel is now $4.49 a gallon.
Assuming an average of 1000 miles a month @ 8mpg - that's an extra $400 a month on fuel cost. Indeed everything else is going up too so to some people, finding an extra $300 - $400 a month on top of their existing stretched budget does hurt and could make the difference.
When we went fulltime, there was a sizeable difference in our stick house budget and our fulltiming budget. The increase in fuel cost and camping fees, insurance, reg fees etc makes that difference a little smaller.
Sure, for many $400 is not a make or break amount - for some it is.

Life is to short to worry about it. My brother talked about retiring at age 65 and get a MH to travel the country. Well he passed away yesterday at the young age of 64. And I'm 63 and no way will I park it going to run the wheels off of it.

I wonder if its a good time to trade and upgrade? Fuel for my RV use is a very small % of my budget. We usually take one long trip a year and then use it for MANY small short trips. The amount of fuel we use even at 10 dollars a gallon will be cheaper than hotel rooms. We use it for tail gaiting, local racing and summer camping local. We occasionally take it on a 600 mile jaunt and every other year plan on a 3500 mile trip to Disney. With Kids, the price of flying, hotel, rentals etc... will always be a wash for me and does not come close to giving the same experience for my kids. Our family time durring the trip is priceless. As long as I have diesel available and its not rationed and in shortage then I will still buy it. The cost of travel will always follow the price of oil. You can find deals but the deals will still go up over time. You can't get something for nothing.
I have mine up for sale but not at a very reduced price. I am actually thinking of looking at a nicer unit.

Sold the 23' fly bridge, the boat house and the yacht club dock site and quit the yacht club so we could see the land sights! Much nicer than seeing the same stretch of river over and over!!

Despite the doom and gloom there are a lot of fancy new rv's I see in my travels here in Florida, and we've had a dealer posting about sales increases this year, but the financial markets talked about up to 37% decrease in rv sales overall.
There have been some comments about affordability, and the extra fuel cost being unmanageable. I think the cost of filling up has got to the point of rejection by many, regardless of their financial situation. In my case I am so glad we sold the MH two years ago as I will not pay current fuel prices for 8/9 mpg rig, but it does make us a little sad as we had so much fun, met many nice people and saw a lot of the country.
