In another post, someone stated that people are dumping their RV because the high price of fuel. Are people really actually trying to get out of their motorhomes because of the cost of fuel? Seems a little silly to me.
Yeah, the cost of fuel now sucks, but the delta is small compared to all the other costs of a MH camping trip, unless you go on really long trips really far away.
My case in point....we average about 400 miles per trip. With prices going from like $2.70 to $3.50, thats like a $50 difference. Yeah $50 is $50. But sell the RV? NEVER!

First off, we don't really know if the reason this fellow was selling his RV was because of the gas prices. There was another guy who was looking for a rental truck, because he sold his TV, because of high gas prices...AND..the $500 payment he had on the truck!!! He had overextended himself, but wasn't looking to get out of the RV lifestyle, just couldn't afford the truck he had.

There are those of us who are going to go camping...adjust our lives to be able to afford the gas for the trip, or make shorter trips. There are also going to be those (and hopefully very few) who say that enough is enough, and get out. My guess, those people were either so close to the edge, they couldn't afford an extra $50/month on their budget, or they didn't really care for the lifestyle anyway, and this was an excuse.
You will read, on a daily basis, newbies, who have gotten their first RV, and are excited about the prospect of camping with their families. My guess, this has been the way it's been for years....some people getting out, some others getting into the RV lifestyle. The gas prices may be an excuse, but I don't know if the numbers are all that different than they were a decade ago.
This is actually a great time to buy an RV...the market is way down, and a buyer can get a pretty good deal. There are plenty of places to go that are fairly close to home....which is ideal for a newbie, since you really want to break-in your new rig, and why do that thousands of miles from home, when you can enjoy it just as much "in-state". We figure to learn about our state, then work our way up & down the East coast...and THEN, head west. Gas won't effect us too much....and considering the thousands of dollars we saved on our MH, we've got some extra to spend on gas! As with most things, it's how you look at it!

If your going to commit to selling your RV now because of the high fuel prices, your going to lose 20 times the amount that the extra fuel will cost you. This is obviously a buyers market for an RV, if selling, you have to give them away.

Well! I am glad most of us are thinking positive, BUT, I just read an article that said that diesel might hit a high of six dollars per gallon. Now it sorta sends a jolt through your system, but I guess we will just drive less and spend more time in the campgrounds.
That reminds me, I got to fill my coach tomorrow for a trip we have coming. Yikes!! I think I saw a sign at Flying J where the fuel as of today is $4.6190 per gallon.
Drive past just about every RV sales lot, and ''PRICE REDUCED!!'' printed inside of fluorescent yellow starbursts is plastered across the windshields of every unit on the lot. I'm thinking that if you even thought about selling your RV because of high fuel costs, you should've done it two years ago. Now, you're stuck with a white elephant.
Yes, $5 diesel is ANNOYING but, as is usual, you drive from point A to B and you’re there. You go exploring in your toad, which (hopefully/presumably) gets higher MPG than the coach. Or… you unhitch your TT or 5’er and the truck suddenly gets 50% higher MPG.
You can still eliminate hotel/motel rooms and their ridiculous rates, and cook your own food, bypassing restaurants. Besides… in an RV, you know who/what’s been in your bed, and what’s in your food. I don’t plan on parking the Safari yet.
We won’t even talk about BOATING. The only way to ‘’save’’ there, is to own a sailboat. As for me, Old ‘n’ Slo is still floating in the marina, waiting to head out. (About every other weekend)

LOL! Yea! About boating? I have a real nice 24' day cruiser that I need to take out. I have not used it in a year. NOW that is a gas hog. Lots of fun, but man that is the most expensive toy I have ever bought.
