We cross sized to a Park Model with the proceeds from the MH. This is not for everyone, however we have been retired for 6 years and were ready to settle down.

Personally..I see nothing wrong at all with a park model trailer. May even buy one in my own future but Id still keep my CC.
The old gal and I would drag our toad and spend weeks getting to ( location) and then park the coach..drive the toad around..and when we decided to come back home...close up the park model...drive the coach and drag the toad for weeks getting back home. How can a guy have it any better than that?

Have heard this but I have not met anyone who says they are selling because of Fuel Costs. We just completed a month long 3000 mile trip and I must admit that it stings a bit to pay $4.20 to 4.49 a gallon for diesel, however, we have decided that we will just have to cut back in other areas if we have to. Di not intend to sell.
After reading these posts, I think the deciding factor for most people isn't the extra gas money they spend "per trip", i.e, an extra $50 for a short trip, or an extra $500 for a long trip that they wouldn't have had to spend a year ago. Cutting back a little in other areas can make up that difference for most folks.
I think what's squeezing some people is just the overall cost of living in general: gas to get to work every day, higher food and heating oil prices, etc. That's money you could have socked away for your big summer trip that you just don't have anymore. That threshold, of course, depends on how much "cushion" you have in your debt to income situation as well as how far you have to drive to work, etc. It will be different for everyone.
Fortunately for us, personally, we haven't hit that critical point yet. We haven't really given anything up. We still have our satellite TV, cell phones and are still going to go camping as much as we did last year. We do find that we aren't replacing things that we may have if we had more disposable income (i.e, furniture, computer, television, etc.) I suppose we too, have a critical point where we'd have to give up the RV, but $4/gallon obviously isn't it.

Yes, and let's not forget all the families who have been engaging in multi-activities/multi-hobbies, one of which is RVing/motorhoming. There's many of these who are feeling the pinch, AND have decided to eliminate RVing, in favor of hobbies which they find more suitable for them.

We try to save money in other areas - probably just like everybody now. We eat out in restaurants less, last three vehicles we bought were used, we combine necessary shopping trips into town and make one trip for many stops, we cancelled magazine subscriptions, we don't buy really anything that is not substantially marked down on sale or reduced, I am doing more of my own maintenance on everything, I fish the lake I live on more now instead of driving to another place to fish. We save in many other ways.
We don't intend to sell the motorhome anytime soon. It's paid for. It might be another story if I had a high monthly RV note added to all the other living expenses. We mainly use it now for going south for a few months in the winter and to cooler weather in the heat of the dog days summer - so in the large scheme of things the extra cost for diesel to get to Florida or Colorado a couple of times and back is not really that great.
Life is short. Enjoy it as best as you can. I hope the pendulum will shift when we get oil out of the White House just like it shifted with the dotcoms and the silver market and gas in the seventies.

I was going to spend the $300, from congress, on gas, but now I'm going to have to spend it on somenew tires since everyone has decided that my 6 year old tires with 2000 miles on them are dangerous!

Why would I sell? This makes no sense to me. We will do just what we are doing for Memorial Day weekend. Instead of traveling 125 miles, spending 150+ for fuel round trip, and spending 70 bucks a night for a campsite just because it is Memorial Day weekend, we are going to a State Park travel 25 miles, spend 25 bucks for fuel and 20 bucks a night for a campsite. Go figure.
I can still enjoy my coach and be in a much larger campsite. This is something we are going to do a lot this summer.
