I was wanting to know if anyone has pros or cons on awning travel locks. I see where RV Toy Outlet has some listed for $37.81. Any info on these would be appreciated.

Awning locks are another form of insurance against something bad happening. We use one but others will state they have camped for 100 years without one with no problem. Take your pick.

We haven't even used ours once yet because I fear it might not stay secured on a windy trip (like last year). Keep it Zip Strapped with some heavy ones.
I bought an Awning Clamp and trying to get time and good day on a Saturday weather wise to install it. It is a pretty simple design, but heavy linked strap. Beefier than I expected by the picture.
Once I get this on, the Zip Straps are coming off and we are rolling it out!

We had the same one that RV Toy Outlet is selling on our previous fiver. It was great piece of mind.Our new Sundance fiver will get one ,too.

Depending on the length of your awning, a center rafter support also helps secure the awning while traveling. The manner in which our support rafter lifts and supports the awning while traveling would make it very unlikely for the awning to open. If anyone has contradictory information about this....please post it, as I don't recall any discussions about this or that contradict what I've said.

I myself have never understood the push for awning locks and the whole billowing thing that happens... despite the fact that I've seen it happen to people on the road.
My awning must have something different than most others on the forums because on the right hand side it has a lever that locks the awning from being able to be pulled out. I've several times forgotten to flip the lever and tugged on the pullstring and the awning didn't even move. The awning won't go back in unless I flip the lever the other direction then it pulls itself back in. I don't see how the wind could unroll it when it's locked properly including the support bars being locked into place. I guess if the lock were broken or it didn't have one then I would consider an aftermarket lock.

It happened to me last winter. I, too, have the flip lock on the right end but the left end slightly unrolled and ripped the awning from the bracket. It didn't come off the trailer but damage to the bracket and end of roller was still bad.
It happened in heavy winds on a two lane road when a big semi roared by. Somehow the pressure must have wrapped around the back of the trailer and really gusted. Or maybe it was just the gusty winds. First time and we have been rving for 30 years.
I just bought and and installed an awning lock!!!

Finally got a break in the wind and rain today and after two attempts between rains, got the RV Innovations Awning Clamp installed. Worked out pretty good and amazingly got it positioned just right for the proper tension on the snap lock first try. Going to caulk all around the top mount with Dicor and silicone around the bottom plate.
Now we can move the TT out to where we can fully open the awning and give it the first washdown and start using it without having to worry about it on the road.

I do not have the locks, but I am very reserved about awning deployment. Many times I will put the trailer in the trees so awning deployment is out of the question or not needed.

Same thing happened to me as Earl E. Only thing I can figure is it was the first trip after the winter and the awning strectched form beign hot and cold, wet and dry. So when a semi came by it started to pull some out and it flapped and wore a hole in it. I pulled over, pulled the awning out, rerolled it and its been fine ever since. I should get a few locks myself.
