Ok DW and I are racking our brain trying to figure out what types of outdoor toys to bring for our kids besides the typical balls, trucks frisbees, bubbles and such. What do other people bring that they find to be original and entertaining?
DS is four but he has camping down with exploring and fishing but we now have 19 month old twin girls and they pose the challeng of what to bring.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and as always thanks in advance!

My grandchildren had a great time with a huge collection of identical margarine tubs. Put tiny things (rocks? dirt?) in them and carry them around. Dishes for tea parties. Stacking. Make a tower, knock it down. Water, and pour it around from cup to cup or on themselves or whatever. Float them in water. Throw them through a hoop. They'll think of their own games. A huge stack of these nesting tubs or cups weighs little, takes little space, and doesn't cost anything. Adjust activities to the children's age, keep things safe.
My little ones (not so little now) loved to paint rocks, still do at times. I'd bring washable paints, the crayola ones, even the big set is only like $4.00 and they would paint for a long time. Since the paint easily washes off and if you're outside, no worries. They also like the little bug catchers, you can get at WallyWorld for like $5 they have tweezers and a little flashlight and magnifying glass. They liked to try and catch lightening bugs etc. I would also suggest like a homemade clay or dough receipe, using your pantry supplies, fill the receipe in tupperware and bring along, and then prepare at the picnic table, letting them help. If they make a mess, your outside.... my kids love to make homemade pizza dough and then they play with it forever....
We took our 2 year old granddaughter camping a lot last year. Sand toys are fun no matter where you are at. She loved the little tent we had for her and would go in and just play with her toys. The most fun she had was with a big spoon, a cup and a pan of water all things I had in the trailer.

We are very simple in terms of toys...(twins 5 yr olds and a almost 3 yr old). Inside they each got to pick out 2 matchbox cars that stay in the trailer. They also get their stuffed animals that they sleep with. Outside we have an identical set of sand/dirt toys: bucket, shovel and 2 sand cars (gotta love target). They love to dig in the dirt should we be on the dirt lot, drive the cars on those paved lots and of course we go to the beach often. This last trip we added scooters for everyone....
Haven't had a "I'm bored" statement yet and I still have room for food and stuff.

I have 23mo old triplets! We love to camp with them and have so much fun! A must have is a portable DVD player for when they get really fussy. I go to the Dollar Tree and .99 cent store and buy a bunch of their outdoor toys, rakes, shovels, buckets. We also have a big tub of mega blox, a couple of ride on toys, books, coloring books and crayons. Its not a huge amount of stuff about the size of a small box.
We keep all of those toys in the trailer so that way they always seem like new and they dont lose interest and get bored.
Sand toys and stackable toys are great. Sand or no sand, there is no end to a kid's imagination of what to do. We always take along some playdough, coloring books, and maybe a movie, just in case the weather is bad. Most of the time is spent outside. We're constantly amazed at how entertaining a walk (or use your stroller) through the park checking out the sites and sights can be, and how interested the kid's are in what we find. Look for parks with playgrounds, swings, etc. Our triplets are older, but I throw their bikes in and bought some orange cones I place a site or two each side of us. The kids have learned not to ride past hose cones.

The funny thing is that DW and I thought maybe we were missing something, but we have pretty much done everything posted in here so far, it's good to know we are in the same mind set as others!
Oh, and TravelwithTriplets, and Mamakitten3, you guys are insane, we thought we had it bad with twins and a 4yo, you just reduced our complaints in half! LOL
A blow up pool. Water play is a blast if the weather is warm enought and at the end of the day add a little bit of bubbles and bath time is done. Scoop, poor, scoop, poor.
