DD called this afternoon, and said Aidan (our grandson) came face to face with a rattle snake at a local park. My heart was in my throat when she told me. HE IS ONLY 21 MONTHS OLD! We'd both told him several times about snakes, and that they bite you, Ouch. Be very careful, don't touch them, etc. He listens, he understood! Thank God for that.

The snake crossed in front of him and stopped, Aidan stopped, and called "mom, mom", which made her come running. They were only at the very most, 2 feet from each other. A very close call. Thank goodness she sticks close to him. Whew!

Talk to your kids, I don't care how small. They understand more than you think. And, be careful out there this summer.

May we all have safe travels.

Sure glad he had been told about the "ouch" snakes cause and was smart enough to stand still and call mom!! Smart boy!! I'm glad he's safe!

Have I ever told you I have a great nephew named Aiden? Spelled a bit different but pronounced the same I bet.

I'm glad he's okay but should he be crawling around on the ground at a public park? Dogs with bad or no owners have run of the park and who knows what the child would have crawled through.

Wow, how lucky you had both spoke to him about snakes.
I don't like the slithery things.

I know it is scarey. We are lucky enough to live where we don't have a lot of poisonous snakes, but we do have them. Some think we don't. Ours hang out mostly up in the hills, and most kids are not aware of the danger, thinking bull snakes or garden snakes.
We actually have a hill not to far from town here called rattle snake hill and I guess you can find quite a few of them up there during the summer.

Aidan wasn't crawling, he was walking. He's/we are very lucky, and I too think his angel was watching over him.

The snake probably had the thought, "whew, that kid scared me for a moment there. I thought he was going to step on me." But when the park rangers caught it, the snake had more to worry about!

Okay, I guess when I read he got "face to face" with a rattler I thought he was crawling. Never mind.

It's ok, but him being only 3 ft. tall, that is face to face! When it comes to a rattler, a foot and a half is way too close. Thank goodness the snake decided that he wasn't a threat!
