No but they eat fire ants. Maybe some chocolate covered rasberry ants will solve the problem.

Thanks for the link to that article! I sent it to all my family members who live in the Houston area - if it isn't the ticks in Arkansas it's the ants in Texas! What're we gonna do when they come for YOU? Yikes!

We live outside Hot Springs about 12 miles - 15-20 mins., time wise. About 4 miles south of Hot Springs Village, which is a retirement community. We have a 5 bdrm., 3 bath home for sale if you're interested! Walmart is 5 mins. away!

If they prey on fire ants, they'll be a blessing. In their native Amazon, fire ants have natural enemies - and they need one here! As long as they don't eat crops.

Any insecticide that works for one species of ant will work for another - only the method of delivery will vary. To kill a mature colony of Texas leaf cutter ants ("town" ants) - which are very destructive to both ornamentals and vegetables - requires 32 ounces of 7.9% bifenthrate (about $50 worth), mixed with 32 gallons of water and applied quickly as a subterrainian drench.

Diazinon has been taken off the market. Bifen costs much more, but is safer and seems to work as well - and it will kill the rasberry ants too, once we learn their feeding and breeding habits. But if they're not destructive or dangerous, we'll leave them alone. Fire ant control isn't a problem anymore with AMDRO Fire Ant Bait - great product, safe to handle and easy to use - a bit costly, though, at $10/lb. We used to pour gasoline on their mounds before Amdro - but not at $5.00/gal!

We really like fire ants...we don't have ticks on our place since the fire ants have come! No joke, but we do try to keep them out of the yard. Our cattle and dogs hardly have any ticks.
