I don't know how true this is, but my dad (a farmer during the 30's) said that Texas passed a law that all livestock, dogs, cats, etc. had to be dipped for ticks for many years and it broke a cycle. All I know is that in Arkansas they are HORRIBLE. I'll take fire ants anyday.

I've been bit so many millions of times that I'm 100% immune to fire ant stings. I work all day in my garden and they're all over me - I just brush them off. Our cows and dogs don't have many tics either - but they wade and swim in the pond everyday too.
I've seen perch picking tics off cattle in the pond.
