Just got back from camping at the infield in Darlington for the second year. Nice to see friends that we met last year. Kind of tee'd off at the track. Security personnel everywhere. You can't go here, you can't go there. The infield is getting like a prison. You can't even walk through the new tunnel. It has walkways but they won't let anyone use them,,,,for safety reasons (they say). NASCAR is a very fan un-friendly sport. I saw many drivers in their golf carts go past young kids wanting an autograph. NONE would stop. The heck with them to put it nicely.

I used to watch Nascar all the time but in the past few years they have really gone down hill. All these rules they have made things worse. Everyone runs in a pack untill the last 10 laps when you have the big crash.Years ago,a team that didn't have the money but had the smarts to build a better faster car could compete. Now every spring, screw and bolt has to be Nascar approved. It was more exciting when Richard Petty,Bobby Allison,Cale Yarborough were racing. You could have a guy 2 or 3 laps down and they could come back to win.Not now.And the drivers were more accesable. They were glad you showed up to see them. Now they hide out in their motorhomes playing video games until it's time to race.

I found this statement very interesting. Several years ago I went to an "event" with Richard Petty. $200 a plate dinner to meet the king. He had so many "staff" (security) around him you couldn't even get close. Only the host's closest friends got an autograph. No one got to speak with him. At least the food was good.

Yeah, and it was better back when they used to race REAL cars - even convertibles for a while!

NASCAR is making some really bad decisions. They think they every decision was right because the money has grown by leaps and bounds.

Just some of the reasons we quit going, besides NASCAR kicking thier old fans to the curb, and reinventing the whole system.

Check out the Indy Car series. A much friendlier crowd and ALOT more fun to watch. It is REAL racing, not lets take the other guy out. The wheel to wheel racing is incredible, their speeds are MUCH faster than what you see in NASCAR, and from personal experience both on the track and as a spectator, the drivers treat the fans better. All the motorsports are about making money but the IRL drivers still take care of their fan base. Now that ChampCar/CART has finally merged with them this year is going to be AWESOME. Indy 500 is Memorial weekend, not the drunk fest it use to be much more family friendly! Enjoy.
