Simple, there are a huge amount of closed minds here. Turn the TV on and live your life as you please. If you get pulled over for this, so what. Deal with it and go on. There are a bunch of forum police that just love to post "that is illegal" but then so is driving 56 in a 55MPH zone. So is driving a rig that you are not licensed to drive, So is not using a turn signal, So is not using TOAD brakes in certain states, and on and on and on.
Unplug it from where it is plugged in and plug it into the other receptacle and you are probably good to go.

Should be a relay...normally closed...that you can pull the coil wire from...sometimes in the dc circuit only for ac/dc tv's. Either way the coil is 12vdc and is energized by the ignition...opening the contacts and thereby killing the power to the outlet....hopefully whether it's ac or dc.

I've set mine up for movies on the long trips. Keeps my Daughters very happy!
But, I wouldn't do it without them using headphones . I think that would be way too distracting.
On my old "C" I had hardwired a long headphone plug over to the couch and they just plugged in there.
Now in the "A", I've set-up a pair of wireless headphones. This works great and gives them a little more movement room!
The Girl's listen to the movie and Mom and Dad can have the radio to ourselves (or just peace and quite while cruising along).

We also use our TV while driving...but my DH set it up to play on one of the channels my GPS screen. So now, to throw this thread into another frenzy, is that illegal?? I have my little 3" touch screen beside on the right, but that does him no good. So my GPS also plays on the big TV. He can take a peek if need be (which is really no different that peeking at a regualr GPS ~ and their not illegal) and my children can also look at it, which stops the "are we there yet" and "how much longer" and "where are we" they can answer it themselves.
I set our TV up with wireless headphones so I am not distracted by the TV's sound............I can't see the TV without twisting my neck in a position that it won't like and I can't hear it........what's there to complain about??
I believe you have an acceptable set-up. IF, and that's a big IF, you should ever be pulled over, while you're slowing down, switch channels to the GPS screen.
That's what gets me. GPS & laptop computer screens are not a distraction, yet TV screens are. Huh? These threads always bother me. These are laws that find their way onto the books due to one mechanism: lobbying. One group of people imposing their view/agenda on everyone else for the "safety" of society. BS.
I'm a big proponent of personal responsibility. It is the driver's responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner consistent with their ability. If they can operate safely AND talk on a cell phone, then so be it. If they can operate safetly while tuning the radio, so be it. If they can operate safely while the TV is on so others can watch, so be it. I just HATE laws that pander to a specific interest. And this is certainly one of those ares. There are some people that should not be driving ANYTHING...PERIOD. Chewing gum is too much of a distraction for them, yet we let them drive.
In my opinion, all states should have an "Inattentive Driving" law on the books. (I believe Massachusetts has such a law.) If you're involved in an incident and it was shown that the driver's lack of attention was at least part to blame, then there should be a penalty imposed. It doesn't matter WHAT the distraction is, the operator allowed themselves to be distracted. THAT is the offense, not the object of the distraction.

Oh...and yes, I plug our TV and DVD player in the front of our Class A into the unswitched outlet and all is fine. I'll take my chances...I'm just such a daredevil that way! LOL (NOTE: At night time, the glare from the TV can be a problem and I will have it shut off if such is the case. I guess I'm not THAT much of a daredevil after all.)

Does anyone here have personal experience of someone being ticketed for illegal TV operation or caused an accident while watching TV? Rare as hens teeth I bet.
I have personal experience. I've ticketed people for active TV screens accessible to the driver. It seemed to be a fad several years ago. One had a porno flick on a 9 inch screen. He was also charged with illegal distribution of pornographic materials because it could be seen by children. The charge stuck. I didn't write any tickets in the last 15 years of my career. I don't know of any TV tickets written on RVs. I guess they had better sense than to have the TV on or they turned it off before the wrong people could see it.
