I also have issued citations for this offense. It is not as rare as some seem to think. I know of one FHP Officer that has issued over 100 such citations. Take your chance, I'm just making you aware that it does happen.

If I use a piece of cardboard to completely block my view of the TV from the driver's seat, can a LEO give me a ticket?

If I actually have to lift my rear end out of the seat to see the TV, would that be ticketable? You might be able to see the light from the TV when you drive by, but you can't see the screen from the driver's seat.

Yep, there is always that one LEO that lets his gun and badge go to his head and becomes a real horses pattoon, then there are others that are normal and have a little common sense that could care less if the tv is on in a mh.

The only time my TV is off, is after dark. The glare bothers my night vision. I have a fuse location that is`labeled "TV Interlock". With the fuse removed, the TV works while the MH is in motion.
My wife watches and I listen. I don't consider it a distraction to my driving, if anything it helps keep me awake on long trips.

Silver Knight, everything you mentioned can jeopardize everyone else on the road. There ARE others out there, you know.

My point exactly. If you ever do one of the items I mentioned it is no different that the TV issue.

AMEN BROTHER.... Your initial post is right, and as for the forum police i see your inital post was modified. There is nothing wrong with living your life how you choose, people all have different opinions and that is what makes this country great, but to all the "FORUM POLICE" and others dont impose your views on others.

My fuse was in the front fuse block under the grill, removed immediately prior to leaving the dealer lot and the satellite and tv were on from that point on.

Good luck!

If the kids desire to watch TV while on the road, they are told to go to the bedroom. That TV is not interlocked while driving. They can watch TV, play games or whatever. The TV is a distraction to me while driving. I prefer to listen to Sirius talk radio while driving, keeps me awake. As for the LEOs out there, I liked all your answers. Keep the crazies off the roads for those of us who desire to drive safely.

I will never, ever apologize for enforcing a law that is designed to protect those drivers who feel nothing will ever happen to them or is designed to protect others on the road. I gave lots of verbal warnings for violations that didn't have possible fatal ramifications. You don't care about the others. Someone has to.

Does anyone here have personal experience of someone being ticketed for illegal TV operation or caused an accident while watching TV? Rare as hens teeth I bet.

I posted the same question however the moderator decided to edit it out for me.

But you should use judgement. If the TV was on to keep kids or others happy while driving and the driver is not looking up to watch it, is there really a need to issue a citation? Cell phones, GPS systems, backup cameras are just as (if not more) distracting.

As for the FHP that has issued over 100 citations for this (serious crime) he should have had his wings clipped a long time ago. This was an easy ticket for him and you could tell by his numbers he was/is out of control and had a special attraction (fetish) for issuing these tickets.

I have in motion sat and the tv is on a lot when driving, there is no difference in listening to Fox news channel or the radio. If I ever get a ticket for it I will go to court and plead not guilty and ask for a jury trial. There is no way a jury will convict someone for something this stupid but if the state wants to waste taxpayers money on a trial then I am all for it. I did the same thing in south texas last month because of one of the LEOs I mentioned ealier, a real horses arse, and the judge dismissed it. This was not for the tv but an illegal parking ticket.
