Well I guess since we are really new to the Class A scene I tend to think that we still camp. Actually for Memorial Day weekend, I will be going to camp, at deer camp with a tent, a cot, a pit toilet, a shower that consists of putting a 7 gallow container over your head with a shower attachment on it in an enclosed area with pavers for a floor. No electricity, running water, or any of that. Roughing it, you could say, but we sure have fun and eat well.

We still use Corps campgrounds or other state parks, and cook overthe fire on a collapsable grill. Clean what few dishes we dirty outside the MH on a collapsable table, and spend most of our time except for sleeping, outside doing stuff. Sit up late beside the fire and generally try to enjoy the area we are in, away from the tv, ac, or other things inside the MH.

Oh and since we have only spent 10's of thousands on the MH and by that I don't even mean 11's of thousands, yea, we still look at prices when we are traveling. The wife, 5 yr old son, and I can have all kinds of fun at the low end of the scale, probably more so than those that I see pull up, set up and never leave their units unless they are walking across the road to go into another unit.

To each their own I guess. As long as your enjoying yourself.

I agree that there are some nice state camp grounds, but most of them in the west coast were designed for shorter coaches and is hard to get anything over 36'in. I did see some nice state parks in South Carolina, but it was not for me. They were in very thick forest and I prefer a little open-ness. I finally managed to find one that would take bigger coaches in Idaho. It was nice and it was not over run by the week enders. Most of the time we stay in private campgrounds that we belong to like 1000trails and all we pay per year is around $450.00 in dues. Which I figured out how much it costs us to stay in those places with full hook ups and all the amenities we could ask for. It figures out to about $2.50 per day. We stay average about 180 days out of a year.

I like to rough it in the woods too. But we also need 4 showers a day min. We also like the gampgrounds with lots of things for the kids to do. Strawberry Park is one of our favorite for the kids and its only one hour away. This is a typical weekend schedule.

We like the $75.00 parks as much as we like dry camping. It just depends on the mission. We dry camp for a week at time with three kids who have showers every day. Granted they call me the water Nazi but it works fine. There is nothing finer than dry camping and being all alone. The fires, the dark night sky....

Likewise I love to go to Carmel with my wife and have nice dinners out and walk on the beach or shop downtown.

That's what is so special about RV's you can camp in the middle of nowhere or have a 2nd home anywhere.

First, I can stay in NFS parks for 1/2 price with the Senior Passport. BUT, why should I when I can stay in a perfectly nice park for $3/night with 50 amps, FHU, a pool, etc.? We don't camp - we RV. We do love to grill outside, but it isn't mandatory everyday. And we aren't on vacation - this is our home. We do a lot everyday outside the park and love to come home to a comfortable place. We've just about given up on state and national parks as you need reservations so far ahead if it should happen to include a weekend that it isn't worth it for the summer. In September you can usually find a place without months ahead reservations. We just don't plan that far ahead for normal travel.

Isn't that the beautiful thing about doing what you want to do?

Some of us don't mind paying whatever it costs, others prefer to sit in the desert 365 days of the year and most of us fall somewhere in between.

I pay from $16 to $20 in State parks for 30 amps, some with full hook-up.

When staying at COE parks I pay $7 to $10 with the golden pass and use the blue tank if staying for a week or more or use the dump station for short stays.

The only time I pay outrageous prices is on the road at KOA for overnight or camping in the commercial parks at the beach.

I think there are many of us that started out in tents and have had our share of "camping" now enjoy the RV life style and have NO desire to go back.

I say to each his own and if you want to be close to nature back pack in and sleep on the ground. I have been there and done that but I'm just to old for that kind of enjoyment anymore.

DITTO! Why do we have to choose one over the other? Fine parks and roughing it; depends on the mission (well put). We get dressed for cocktails, or we enjoy jeans and a few beers. Open up the parameters.
BTW, stayed at a wonderful park with both last night. The owner of 17 years says" Nobody tents anymore; todays tent is a pop-up or Bambi" Check Red Rock Rv and Campground, Island Park, ID. Highly recommend it.

My wife and I made our first large purchase back in 1972. A Starcraft Tent trailer. 'Fulltimed' in it for 3 weeks going from Utah to RI after my discharge from the Air Force. We have had tents, boats, travel trailers truck campers and now a class A. (never did the C thing)

As to camping, well like I said, we have done most of it including a portion of the Appalacian Trail, (just me), and class A 'camping is great. We have always done most of the cooking etc outside, we still do that, however, that nasty morning we can cook easily inside, lounge on the sofa and catch the news on TV.

Oh, and look at the framed cross-stitch legend, "We Love Our Sissy Camping".

BTW, I remember back then, setting our little trailer up, grill stove, lantern etc, and seeing a motor home pull in and thinking, "Why do they even bother?"

Our Rexair has ONLY been plugged in 6 days total in the 4 years we have owned it. Al six up at Whister ski area in the winter for heat while skiing. ALL other time spent in it has been boondocking, generally in the northwest woods.
