We stayed at Taos Valley in March of 2007. It was fairly nice and the owners seemed pretty nice.

Try Villanueva State Park. During a new moon you will see more stars at night than you can see in almost any place in the USA. The park is in a canyon and amazing.

Thanks for the suggestion about Villanueva State Park.

It's going on my list of places to camp at one day.

We haven't lived in NM that long and would love to get a good list of places to go RV and/or tent camping one day (including the insider list of nicest campgrounds for those places).

So far, the only places we have been camping in NM is Jemez Falls (loved it!!, been twice now) and Santa Fe (town was nice, RV park just ok, but it was close to town and that is what we needed then.)

I have not yet been to a NM state park and been dissappointed! They take pride in cleaning the restrooms and the parks. Plus it is cheap and you can make online reservations for a few extra bucks.

Orilla Verde Campground Rio Bravo has electric and water! We were there a couple of weeks ago...nice! About a 20 minute drive to Taos. BLM - first come first serve.

We went to Villaneuva State Park once. Never will go back. There was a big party and a TON of ants everywhere. Thankfully I had comet to put around the wheels...I mean swarming all over the carpet everything. Actually left a day early......yuck

I am a BIG FAN of NM state parks but will not go back to Villaneuva

Do you know if they have a dump station at Orilla Verde Campground Rio Bravo ? We are heading down the last week in June for a wedding and would like to stay there if they have a dump station.

Thanks

Cool! Last time I was down there -- admittedly quite a while ago -- they had no hookups.

Does anybody know about the status of hookups at Wild Rivers?

This is an old message so you may have your trip. If so, what did you think about Taos RV Park/Budget Inn? I like smaller parks and don't need a lot of amenities. We were there in either 1991 or 2001. It was fine but then but wonder about now. We stayed at Santa Fe Skies RIGHT after it opened, no club room then but everything was spic and span, same owners and they are great!

Hey Eubanks (the expert on New Mexico......have you traveled Hiway 537 through the Jicarillo-Apache Rez in an RV? How is it? It's an alternative if we can't make Bloomfield (going from Chaco up to 64 and on to Chama). There is a great photo of it on the Tribal website but I don't know the year of the photo!

We've leaving 10/1 for Clayton KOA, Taos RV Park, Santa Fe Skies, Cedar Crest at the museum, High Desert in Albuquerque, Chaco if available for 1 night or if not, Blanco Trading Post or Desert Rose in Bloomfield, Sky Mountain Resort in Chama and home via Clayton KOA. I'd appreciate any recent personal info on these parks.

I drive a 1985 Jamboree Rallye Class C, 27 foot, good shape F-450, new tires and tow a Honda CR-V. My GGB is a little slow at upper elevations but she always makes it!

This is my first trip with me driving over 350 miles. A sister Red Hatter is traveling with me and will do some sightseeing driving but will ONLY take over the RV if necessary and probably only enough to pull over and call for help. However, we're NOT planning on that. Any tips on a "first" long trip especially from you lady drivers would be great. I've been on 2 and 4 week trips but wasn't driving!

Since this is an old forum, I hope to copy this to a new thread. I'm sorry I just got onto this because there is not much time for any replies. I DON'T HAVE a laptop but will log on when I can as we're traveling.

Sounds like there are some really great folks out there than use this forum. Thanks so much.
