Hey you experienced Yellowstoners, Did you store your food in the camper? Seeing that it is bear country, just thought I would ask the experts! We are staying in the park @ Madison and Maybe another in the park.

We put our food in the bear box... Better safe than sorry.

We loved Madison last June. Great, centrally located CG.

When I had a hybrid and camped in Yosemite, which I think has more active bears in the campgrounds than Yellowstone, I used the fridge, but kept all other food in a large rubber maid tub that went into the bear box when not in use.

In both Yellowstone and Yosemite, we have stored all scented items (not just food) in the bear box with the exception of items in the fridge. However, we did double bag items in the fridge to try to reduce the scent.

Happy Camping!

We used the fridge for keeping sealed soda, juice, and beer cold... Everything else went into a cooler in the bear box. Again, it was mainly for us to feel like we were working within the rules and regs of the campground, and I didn't want to risk the (slight) possibility of a bear deciding to check out whatever scent it may be coming from the interior of the trailer. So we also included all soap, toothpaste, other toiletries in the bear box as well. It was a bit of a pain, but I got used to it.

I don't frown on anyone else using the fridge for all cold foods, as long as they are aware of and accept the increased possibility (however much it may be) of a bear wishing to enter the TT. It does happen on unusual occasions.

The advice given in the replies above do not just apply to HTT owners. Bears can sniff out food in just about anything including locked cars, TTs, FWs, MHs, etc. And, they can get into any one of those aforementioned vehicles at will. Don't fool around. Follow the "rules" and use good common sense even if it's slightly inconvenient. You'll have a much better camping trip albeit without any scary bear stories to share.
